The new horror series, It: Welcome to Derry, is getting positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes even before it’s released. Fans can start watching it exclusively on HBO and HBO Max starting October 26th, perfect timing for Halloween season.
This new series is inspired by Stephen King’s novel ‘It,’ originally published in 1986. It’s designed to be a story that comes before the events of the 2017 and 2019 ‘It’ movies. Bill Skarsgård returns to play the terrifying Pennywise the Clown, and he’s also helping to produce the show.
What did critics say about It: Welcome to Derry?
As a big horror fan, I was checking out the reviews for the new ‘It’ movie, ‘Welcome to Derry’, and it’s doing really well! Critics seem to like it, giving it an 80% score on review sites. That’s just a little lower than the first ‘It’ movie from 2017, which scored 85%. But it’s definitely a step up from the last film in the series, which got a 62% – still decent, but reviews were a bit all over the place.
The new eight-part series takes place in 1962 and reveals the backstory leading up to the events in the original films, showing what happened before the Losers’ Club ever faced Pennywise. The series, titled It: Welcome to Derry, builds on the world created by director Andy Muschietti in the successful movies.
The TV series was created by filmmakers Andy and Barbara Muschietti, along with Jason Fuchs. The cast includes Bill Skarsgård, Jovan Adepo (known for Overlord), Taylour Paige (Hit the Floor), Chris Chalk (Perry Mason), James Remar (Dexter), Stephen Rider (What Lies Under the Tree), and Rudy Mancuso (The Flash), among other talented actors.
The premiere of “It: Welcome to Derry” is on Sunday, October 26th at 9:00 p.m. Eastern and Pacific time. New episodes will be released every Sunday until the season ends on December 14th.
