As a huge horror fan, I’m already dreading the fact that there’s only one episode left of It: Welcome to Derry! If you’re like me and can’t get enough, you absolutely need to check out Crystal Lake on Peacock. It’s a prequel to the It movies from 2017 and 2019, and it shows what happened in Derry before those films, with a whole new group of people being terrorized by that same terrifying, toothy clown.
Okay, so the final episode of this eight-part season of Welcome to Derry is coming out December 14, 2025, and honestly, it feels like it might be the last big horror TV show for a while. Things have actually been pretty good for horror on TV lately, but once Derry wraps up, it feels like we’re heading into a bit of a dry spell. Thankfully, it sounds like Crystal Lake is coming soon to fill the void and give us our next fix of scares!
Like It: Welcome To Derry, Crystal Lake Will Also Tell The Origin Story Of A Famous Horror Villain

The new series, Crystal Lake, is a prequel to the 1980 horror film Friday the 13th. It’s set at the camp where the original movie takes place and tells the story of how the events unfolded. Linda Cardellini will star as Pamela Voorhees, a key character in the Friday the 13th story, and Callum Vinson will play her son, Jason, as a young boy.
I’m really excited about this new series! Along with the previously announced cast, William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom are joining the project. It’s being led by Brad Kane, who I know from his work on It: Welcome to Derry, which I absolutely loved. Just like Welcome to Derry, this show, Crystal Lake, is going to explore the backstory of a truly iconic horror villain – before they became famous, which is a fantastic idea!
Similar to Welcome to Derry, Crystal Lake takes place in the original setting of the films. The locations of Derry and Crystal Lake are just as central to the stories as the monsters themselves, Pennywise and Jason, along with his mother. While Crystal Lake might initially offer a more understanding look at its monster, it’s safe to assume Pamela won’t remain sympathetic for very long.
Why Crystal Lake Is So Important For The Friday The 13th Franchise

Crystal Lake is a welcome fresh start for the Friday the 13th series. While it’s a well-known horror franchise – even Jason Voorhees recently showed up in HBO Max’s The Chair Company – the series hasn’t kept pace with other successful horror franchises like Candyman, Child’s Play, It, and Final Destination.
The most recent Friday the 13th movie was released in 2009 and was not well-received, currently scoring a 26% on Rotten Tomatoes. The series has struggled lately, but a new origin story or prequel could be exactly what it needs to revitalize the franchise, as these approaches sometimes indicate a lack of fresh ideas, they could provide a much-needed boost for Friday the 13th.
Now that A24 is involved, the new Crystal Lake series has the potential to be truly frightening – something the Friday the 13th franchise hasn’t achieved in a long time. Focusing on Pamela Voorhees is a smart move, as she’s always been an interesting character with a largely untold story, and horror fans should really appreciate it.
