“It was an extraordinary experience”: Rami Malek addresses return to fan-favourite role

Rami Malek has mentioned the potential comeback of “Mr Robot”, stating that working on the series was an exceptional experience for him.

For four seasons spanning from 2015 to 2019, an acclaimed thriller unfolded, starring Rami Malek as Elliot Alderson, a cybersecurity expert. To bring down E-Corp, one of the world’s largest corporations, he chose to ally with a hacking group.

During a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Malek expressed interest in potentially resuming Sam Esmail’s TV series, hinting that he might take on the character again, even though as of now, neither a fifth season nor a movie spin-off has been planned.

He mentioned we should discuss the matter with Sam since they recently met in London. Reflecting on our past, he stated that time spent during that phase was exceptional for us both. The entire acting crew… are individuals I’ve formed lifelong friendships with.

It was deeply disappointing for me to witness the conclusion of that character and show, and although others may argue that the ending came too soon, it’s always better to leave on a strong note, particularly in television. I believe we accomplished that.

Although Mr Robot may not return, fans of the show can watch Malek portray a character reminiscent of his role in the big screen movie The Amateur. The film centers around Charlie Heller, a CIA cryptographer, who sets out to punish those responsible for the demise of his wife.

Instead of relying on traditional physical power like one might expect, Charlie chose to employ his computer expertise, prompting some critics to draw comparisons to Rami Malek’s character in “Mr. Robot.” However, Charlie himself emphasized that these two characters are fundamentally distinct.

He clarified that while there might be connections between Elliot and Charlie, they are two distinct individuals. “Elliot is someone I deeply care for, and I cherished bringing him to life,” he said, reflecting on his fondness for the character and the time spent developing him.

In simpler terms, I found “Mr. Robot” exceptionally original and believe it may have set new standards for TV shows. I’m hoping that “The Amateur” will follow suit, making a similar impact.

The Amateur is in cinemas now.
