It is time to move away from MJF versus Adam Cole
As a long-time wrestling fan and follower of AEW, I must admit that I was initially quite excited when MJF and Adam Cole started their feud. However, after a year of watching this angle unfold, I can’t help but feel that it’s time for AEW to move on.
I remember the days when AEW first burst onto the scene with its fresh, authentic approach to pro wrestling. The promotion was a breath of fresh air in a sea of repetitive storylines and overused tropes. But this feud between MJF and Cole feels like a throwback to those old-school, sports entertainment days that AEW was trying to avoid.
I’ve been to my fair share of wrestling shows, from the small, independent promotions all the way up to WWE, and I can tell you that a good angle is essential for keeping fans engaged. But this feud just hasn’t clicked for me. The injuries, the lackluster crowd reactions, and the tying of the main event to lesser-known acts have all contributed to my growing frustration with this storyline.
I’m not saying that MJF or Adam Cole aren’t talented performers – they certainly are. But when you put two big names in a feud, you want it to be something special. You want it to be the talk of the wrestling world and have fans on the edge of their seats every week. And unfortunately, this isn’t one of those times.
I can only hope that AEW will learn from this experience and move on to something more exciting. I’m looking forward to seeing what they come up with next – maybe a fresh, new angle featuring Will Ospreay, Darby Allin, or some other talented wrestler that will truly capture the imagination of fans like me.
And who knows, maybe one day we’ll look back on this MJF vs Cole feud as a lesson learned and move on to bigger and better things. But for now, I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed. Maybe it’s time for AEW to go back to the drawing board and come up with something new and exciting – something that will truly live up to its potential.
Oh, and one last thing: If MJF ever tries to tell me that he’s a “god’s gift to wrestling” again, I might just have to throw a chair at my TV. That joke has worn out its welcome! 😉
At Worlds End, MJF successfully defended his Dynamite Diamond Ring against Adam Cole. This was a part of an ongoing storyline that’s been unfolding for close to a year now. Despite the fame of both MJF and Adam Cole, their ongoing storyline appears to have run its course. It’s now time to transition away from this rivalry.
On paper, the rivalry between MJF and Adam Cole seems promising, capable of stirring up excitement among AEW spectators. These two individuals have the potential to weave compelling narratives, both in their performances within the ring and through their character development outside of it. Unfortunately, the matchup between Cole and MJF didn’t quite live up to expectations from the outset. The storyline felt overly reminiscent of traditional “sports entertainment,” which contrasted with what AEW fans were hoping for – a focus on the promotion’s pro wrestling roots.
Initially, Cole had been out of action due to injuries for an entire year. Upon MJF’s comeback following external commitments, he subtly suggested parting ways from the ongoing storyline involving Cole. However, this was not what transpired. At Worlds End 2024, MJF secured a victory, but was subsequently assaulted by Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly. The revival of the original Undisputed Era in AEW should have sparked enthusiasm among fans, yet the response was at best lukewarm.
The issue at hand appears to stem from an underutilization of MJF’s potential within the storylines of All Elite Wrestling (AEW). MJF is a prominent figure in AEW, expected to hold multiple AEW World Championships throughout his career. Yet, he seems misplaced in title contention. This narrative arc should have kept him in a compelling position until it was time to elevate him again to the main event scene. Unfortunately, after this storyline concluded, MJF’s appeal has diminished, particularly as AEW persists in linking its top tier with big names such as Will Ospreay, Darby Allin, and others.
From my perspective as a devoted fan, I often wonder about Adam Cole’s next moves. Does he persist in his pursuit of MJF? And speaking of which, does Cole find himself part of both the Conglomerate and Undisputed Kingdom? The narrative unfolding is intriguing, but at first glance, it seems as though everyone involved could be considered mid-card talents on AEW’s impressive roster.
In All Elite Wrestling, they often present captivating storylines with top-notch performers. However, not all storylines succeed. The MJF versus Adam Cole confrontation is one such instance where things aren’t resonating as expected, so it might be time for AEW to shift focus to a new narrative.
