Isla Fisher recently shared that she felt pressured into modeling for men’s magazines early in her career, explaining she didn’t feel she had much say in the matter.
The popular actress, known for her roles in movies like Now You See Me, Wedding Crashers, and The Great Gatsby, was a guest on the Nova 96.9 radio show, Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie, on Wednesday morning.
Kate, a radio host and former co-star of Isla on Home and Away, admitted she used to envy Isla’s success. Isla was featured on the cover of FHM magazine and named one of the world’s 100 Sexiest Women in both 1997 and 2003.
However, Isla revealed that it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows on her journey to stardom.
Speaking of her FHM cover, the 49-year-old confessed that it wasn’t a ‘high point’ in her career.
Looking back, we didn’t have much say in things. It wasn’t until I was in my thirties that I felt able to share my opinions and have them truly considered.

Isla recalls feeling powerless at the start of her career, and as a result, she tended to simply go along with whatever decisions were made.
Being a woman in this industry often felt like I was simply being used, and I just went along with it.
‘Now I’m like, “Oh, hang on, I’ve got some agency”.’
She added: ‘I actually don’t have to do something if I don’t want to. Now it feels really good.’
Isla recently spoke out about the ‘tough’ end of her decade-long marriage to Sacha Baron Cohen.
The Australian actress and Sacha Baron Cohen, age 53, ended their 14-year marriage and separated in late 2023. They have three children together.
The actor recently shared with Harper’s Bazaar that the past two years have been difficult due to the divorce, but she’s optimistic about the future.
She shared with the publication that despite recent challenges, she’s doing well and looking forward to what the future holds.

I’m shifting my priorities back to my career. For a while, my kids were my main focus, and they still are very important to me, but I’m now also dedicating more energy to my professional life.
‘[They’re] my true love. But I’m enjoying tackling work again.’
Isla explained that she was working on both her career and rediscovering who she is as an individual, now that she and Sacha are no longer together.
She explained she’s focusing on adjusting to life after the relationship and trying to remain positive.
The pair announced they have finalised their divorce in June.
They announced on Instagram that their divorce is now complete.
We’re proud of everything we’ve accomplished as a couple and will continue to be friends and dedicated parents to our children. We kindly ask the media to please respect our children’s privacy.
