Iskra Lawrence is praised for sharing footage of her homebirth after welcoming baby daughter ‘P. P’
As a woman who has never experienced childbirth, I can only imagine the strength and resilience it takes to go through such a transformative event. I admire Iskra for her courage in sharing her homebirth videos on social media. Her vulnerability, trust in her body, and unwavering love for her family are truly inspiring.
Iskra Lawrence received acclaim following the sharing of a two-part video detailing her homebirth experience, which welcomed her second child. This was done with the aim of assisting other women in getting ready for their own childbirth experiences.
34-year-old Brit shared on Instagram about her postpartum journey, referring to her newborn daughter as ‘P.P.’ (initially named so).
Iskra and her partner, music producer Philip Payne, are also parents to four-year-old son Alpha.
Iskra openly documented every step of her experience, from labor pains to delivery, and finally her baby’s initial days at home. She shared these genuine experiences with her audience of 5.3 million followers.
Initially, the scene showed the actress swaying gently on the toilet, taking deep breaths during each contraction.
Next, the footage displayed Iskra making her way to the bathtub while breathing deeply through the discomfort. Following this, Philip gently poured water over Iskra’s belly.
With each contraction growing stronger, Iskra winced noticeably, breathing deeply and loudly, letting out cries of discomfort, and eventually pushing hard.
Iskra revealed that at the point, she started ‘thinking of affirmations’ and covered her intimate area with a picture of a rose as P.P. started crowning but got stuck.
In part one, the midwife was checking for the infant’s head while Philip tried to console Iskra, aiming to stimulate her production of ‘essential oxytocin’.
After that, Iskra posted part two, beginning with the model taking deep breaths, anticipating her next contraction before delivering one last powerful push.
Iskra was heard screaming as her daughter was welcomed and put into her arms.
After the tiring ordeal, the model gently rubbed the back of her freshly born baby while both of them adjusted to their surroundings.
Following the swaddling of the freshly born baby in a soft towel, Iskra and Philip indulged in a tender instant, exchanging a kiss while lovingly holding their newborn close.
Iskra allowed them their initial undisturbed ‘touch-to-skin’ session, following which she immediately began nursing for the first time, directly from her mother.
After that, Philip was given the chance to share intimate physical contact with the newborn prior to the umbilical cord being clipped.
The video proceeded to display the newborn being gently washed, nearby its placenta. She had earlier expressed that this birth was the fulfillment of her long-held dream.
On the last day of Virgo season, we shared our newborn daughter on social media. Iskra wrote, “In the water, as the culmination of Virgo season, she entered our world. My midwife placed her on my chest, and I was filled with profound awe.
‘This is the first installment of my account on home birth, a fresh beginning. A new team and a revitalized perspective were in place for this birth, which was long-awaited – though it might appear daunting to an outsider, remember that each contraction signals the imminent arrival of your baby, drawing you nearer.’
Experiencing birth is the most vivid sensation I’ve ever known, as if I’m witnessing the culmination of my efforts to create a new life. It’s like watching the product of my labor gradually descend and prepare to join our world. This moment requires total surrender, a harmonious collaboration where one embraces whatever comes their way during this incredible process.
In a challenging situation, you discover just how strong you truly are. This experience proves to you that you have the resilience to overcome anything life throws at you in the future, as it reveals your hidden capabilities.
‘I find the female body incredible, and I understand why it can sometimes seem romanticized or mysterious. However, during my first childbirth, I felt overwhelmed, lonely, and in need of answers. To help others who might be going through the same experience, I decided to share an unfiltered video of this birth. This is because I believe childbirth is both the hardest and most rewarding experience you’ll ever have. No matter what fears you may harbor, remember that you are capable and you and your baby will instinctively know what to do when the time comes.’
Absolutely, there were instances of vomit, feces, blood, sweat, and tears, but in those moments, I found myself reaching into the very core of my being, pouring out every ounce of energy I had. To me, this reflects the selfless love we have for our children, a love that doesn’t leave us drained, but instead reminds us of our power as creators and the incredible capabilities of our bodies.
For those judging me for choosing a home birth, know that I appreciate your perspective and understand where you’re coming from. My decision doesn’t make my experience superior; it was simply the right choice for me. If circumstances had necessitated a hospital birth, that would have been my path too. For those who find this topic distasteful or inappropriate, please respect that I am at peace with my decision and immensely proud of myself and my body. This journey isn’t for everyone, but it is mine, and I kindly ask you to refrain from watching or commenting if it doesn’t resonate with you.
In the second video, she titled it: “Continuing her visit… Sharing the raw, personal experiences of my second homebirth. This is to help others understand and prepare for childbirth, as witnessing these moments can be enlightening.
It appears that several of you have expressed concerns about childbirth, feeling apprehensive due to the accounts of labor experiences shared by others.
…or perhaps your interest in home birth comes from having only witnessed hospital births in films, sparking a desire for further knowledge on the subject (don’t hesitate to ask questions).
I missed out on recording my first childbirth, a decision I deeply regret as it was an incredibly intense and life-changing event.
As a lifestyle expert, I enthusiastically opt for home births, as it aligns perfectly with my vision of welcoming my little ones into the world. In my previous experience, my son encountered some difficulties during delivery, causing me to lose confidence and harbor fear about childbirth.
‘I would need to work on the fear of baby girl getting stuck this time too
However, frequently our bodies retain memories…and during her crowning moment, she encountered a difficult passage in the “ring of fire,” similar to my initial delivery. Yet, unlike before, my midwife, doula, and Philip didn’t interfere; instead, they reassured me, offered support, and I yielded to their care.
With deep breaths, I patiently anticipated the next contraction. As it arrived, I drew upon an unfathomed reservoir of strength within me – a primal energy that I hadn’t known existed. In that instant, my newborn was placed on my chest, her heartbeat merging with mine. That moment marked our transformation into a family of four.
‘birth is a miracle, I’m forever grateful to have my babies and
‘I hope I can inspire you to see birth as something magical and that you and your baby know exactly what to do and you are capable
(This statement is not intended to persuade anyone, but rather to encourage you) Please let’s keep the comments supportive and understanding, creating a welcoming environment for mothers to share their uplifting experiences. We could all benefit from hearing more of these inspiring stories, not just the ones that might instill fear. You’ve got this, mamas!
Iskra’s courageous choice to post her homebirth videos on social media received global praise from women, who expressed gratitude towards her for sharing such a “transparent” account of her experience.
You perfectly embody elegance, grace, and power. It’s truly breathtaking to see how Philip admires and cherishes you so deeply. He seems to be filled with an abundance of tender love for you.
Oh, I adore this so much! The tender emotions of exposing oneself, relinquishing control, and placing faith in the harmony between one’s body and child are truly captivating. Thanks for allowing us to experience this moment with you.
‘Beautiful! Thank you all for sharing. What a Gift. The Love is palpable. Super Sacred.’
I really appreciate your generosity in sharing your insights. To be honest, I too have been apprehensive despite having attended two births. However, observing diverse experiences has undeniably helped alleviate my fears. I firmly believe that everyone deserves the chance to witness childbirth because it’s a profoundly life-altering event.
Though I don’t have the role of a mother and don’t envision myself in that position, your recent share was incredibly touching. The thought of childbirth is terrifying to me, but witnessing your safe and respected journey through it brought a sense of calm. Thank you for allowing us to accompany you on this beautiful, peaceful birth experience.
bravo! That seemed like a wonderfully memorable occasion! I aspire to have children someday, yet I question if I possess the fortitude needed for pregnancy and childbirth. However, witnessing this has motivated me greatly.
