The Real Housewives is undeniably one of the most successful TV franchises in the world.
Ever since the first installment, The Real Housewives of Orange County, premiered in 2006—drawing inspiration from the show Desperate Housewives—the series has captured the hearts of viewers around the world.
Reality shows about housewives have become increasingly popular on Bravo, with versions now set in cities like New York, Beverly Hills, Atlanta, New Jersey, and Washington D.C.
In 2010, the network created a new show called Miami Social Club. It was essentially a reboot of a 2009 reality series, Miami Social, which followed the lives of seven friends living in South Beach.
I was so excited when the show finally premiered as The Real Housewives of Miami! It was the seventh city added to the Housewives family, and I remember being completely hooked from the very first episode back in 2011. The original cast – Lea Black, Adriana de Moura, Alexia Echevarria, Marysol Patton, Larsa Pippen, and Cristy Rice – were instantly iconic, and I’ve been a fan ever since.
As a huge fan, I was thrilled when the show finally returned in late 2021 after eight long years! Season four brought a whole new group of women – Guerdy Abraira, Lisa Hochstein, Julia Lemigova, Nicole Martin, Alexia Nepola (formerly Echevarria), and Larsa Pippen – and I couldn’t wait to get to know them all.
The show has consistently received praise for its positive portrayal of Latino characters and culture. However, recent low viewership numbers have led to a pause in production, and its continuation is now uncertain.
Current and former cast members have expressed their disapproval, stating that the decision will negatively affect how the Latino community is seen and represented.
Although the show hasn’t been officially cancelled, there are currently no concrete plans for a season eight. TMZ reports the network is considering either rebooting the series or changing the cast.
According to Variety, The Real Housewives of Miami finished its seventh season in October with the lowest viewership numbers of any show in the ‘Real Housewives’ series.
This Bravo show is known for having the most diverse cast on the network, particularly highlighting Latino culture. Cuban cast members Alexia and Marysol frequently speak Spanish to each other during episodes.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I loved seeing such diverse representation on the show! Kiki Barth, who hails from Haiti, beautifully shared aspects of her culture throughout, and it was wonderful to also meet Julia Lemigova, who, as the wife of tennis legend Martina Navratilova, brought her own unique perspective.
Following the announcement of the pause, many people have shared their thoughts, including Alexia Nepola, who posted a reflection on Instagram.
In a recent post, she shared that being on Bravo’s Real Housewives of Miami as a proud Latina has always been about more than just being on TV. It’s about being seen, having representation, and being able to share her perspective.
It’s really disappointing to hear the show has been put on hold, and it’s hard not to feel upset about it. These kinds of opportunities don’t come along often, and they’re incredibly important. They help us share our stories and culture with a wider audience, and they can change how people see the world.
She explained that while she’s sad about the current situation, she believes good things can come from taking a break. She’s always been proud of the show’s impact in highlighting Latin stories, and that will always be important to her. She’s optimistic about the future and doesn’t see this as a final farewell, but rather as a temporary pause.
She then signed off her post as ‘The Cuban Barbie’.
Kiki shared on Instagram that she’s incredibly proud of the last four seasons of The Real Housewives of Miami. She’s especially happy to have been able to share her Haitian heritage with viewers and appreciates being part of such a diverse cast.
Our show features a remarkably diverse group of women – strong, unique individuals who each contribute their own backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. It’s rare to find this kind of variety and personal depth represented within a single television cast.
Honestly, seeing how much my work resonated with people meant the world to me. It’s tough, though, because I feel like I was just hitting my stride and there was so much more of my journey I wanted to share with everyone. It’s disappointing to not have the chance to fully tell that story.
Larsa recently posted on Instagram about the strength of women in Miami, saying they’ve always been resilient and powerful, even when people haven’t noticed.
For years, we’ve been quietly growing and succeeding, working hard behind the scenes. We’re a strong and diverse community of women, representing all kinds of backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.
We celebrate the diversity of Miami. And Miami women are known for their incredible resilience – they consistently emerge stronger, more empowered, and more closely connected than before.
Marysol reflected on her experience on the show and fondly remembered her mother, who immigrated from Cuba.
I began this adventure with my mom, who moved to the US at 19 to go to the University of Miami. She soon became a mother and stayed home to raise a family, and together, we eventually became well-known as part of the Real Housewives series.
Seeing my mother leave behind a good life in Cuba and begin again as an immigrant taught me everything I know about strength. She worked incredibly hard, never gave up, and always believed in the possibility of a better life here in Miami – a story shared by many in our community.
Both our cast and the show itself embody that energy. Each cast member brings a unique perspective to the experience, and that’s what truly sets The Real Housewives of Miami apart.
Reality Blurb was the first to report that the show had been temporarily paused, and a source confirmed this last week.
Sources say ‘The Real Housewives of Miami’ might be canceled due to issues with finding cast members, according to an insider.
According to a source, Alexia Nepola’s former husband, Todd, initially sued Bravo for $10 million, claiming defamation. However, he dropped the case permanently in December.
According to a source, some problems stem from Alexia’s situation, which is complicated by Todd’s lawsuit and his decision not to participate in the show anymore. Without Todd, Alexia’s storyline would likely end, and that could impact the entire series.
As a longtime fan, I’ve been hearing from someone close to the show that the producers just don’t get Miami. Apparently, they never have, and it’s causing a lot of the issues we’re seeing on screen. It’s frustrating to hear, but it explains so much!
Producers were also criticized for showing favoritism and becoming too close to certain actors, which was seen as hindering the necessary casting choices for the show.
Honestly, it drives me crazy! I’ve noticed they just believe whatever anyone says about, like, who’s the ‘queen’ of Miami or whatever. They don’t bother checking if it’s even true! It’s always wrong, and it’s so frustrating to watch! They just accept it without question, it’s wild!
According to a source, the reality show doesn’t accurately portray Miami, which is a much more diverse city. The source believes Alexia, Lisa Hochstein, and possibly Stephanie Shojaee are the only cast members who genuinely represent the true Miami.
One source suggested the show’s production shutdown will likely be extended indefinitely, leading many to believe it’s been canceled.
According to a source, Bravo initially planned to replace four of the cast members with new ones, but they’ve since decided against a major cast overhaul and are pausing any changes for now.
Page Six reported earlier this month that rumors were circulating about Lemigova and Abraira potentially being fired. Sources also suggested a third cast member might be let go, a move that would likely surprise viewers.
From what I’m hearing, Golnesa Shojaee, who first appeared on the show back in season seven, is a bit hesitant about returning for another season. It sounds like she’s weighing her options right now, and isn’t completely sold on coming back just yet.
