Is the new Lightning Lane Premiere Pass truly worth the high price?

As a seasoned gamer of Disney World and Disneyland, I’ve seen my fair share of park changes over the years, from the introduction of FastPass to the evolution of Genie+, and now the unveiling of the Lightning Lane Premiere Pass. With its hefty price tag, it seems that Disney is aiming for a new target demographic – those who have more money than time on their hands.

Disney is providing an expensive option for bypassing the Lightning Lanes. Is it likely that anyone will choose to pay for this service?

It’s well known that Lightning Lane, or the replacement for FastPass, has been a source of disagreement among Disney park visitors. The previous system allowed guests to choose which attractions they wanted to try and get a reservation for, but with Lightning Lane, there’s an extra step where you have to decide what attractions to prioritize and pay for the tiered pricing. Some people find it overly complicated, requiring extensive planning and being present at specific times for rides. On busier park days, this can be a real headache.

The situation became even more intricate due to Genie+ and additional expenses for extra features. Now, Disney is introducing a new method of bypassing lines which will be available from October 23 at Disneyland (for Park Hoppers or Magic Key holders) and October 30 at Walt Disney World. However, this new Lightning Lane Premiere Pass will only function for Disneyland guests with these passes, while it will be offered on a park-by-park basis in WDW, but exclusively to those residing at deluxe WDW resorts or DVC properties.

Great news! With this application, you no longer need to deal with the complex multi-tier system. Instead, simply visit any attraction, open your app, and gain entry without the need to purchase the Individual Lightning Lane option. Doesn’t that sound convenient?

Here’s one way of paraphrasing the given text:

So that’s a pretty hefty price tag to jump the lines and will it be worth it?

Who’s the new LL Pass for?

In simpler terms, this pass is ideal for individuals who prefer to spend more money rather than time when visiting Disney parks. While some visitors might not mind waiting in lines, others prioritize avoiding delays altogether and having quick access to their preferred attractions with minimal hassle. To these individuals, the extra cost of a few hundred dollars may seem justified.

As a seasoned gamer, I can tell you that my recent gaming adventure was reminiscent of a VIP experience at Disneyland without the guide. I’ve been there before, and I splurged on the VIP tour during our 2023 trip. It was costly, but it was more than worth it for us to bypass those long queues and jump onto any ride we desired effortlessly.

Breaking it down, this would be like paying about $18-25 for each of the top rides at a Disney park, which some may feel is a bargain. There’s also the irony that this is probably the easiest any LL procedure has been, as you just need to scan your phone app once at the queue area, and wham, you’re in the LL lane.

Surely, it’s understood that not everyone will be able to take advantage of this opportunity due to financial constraints. The sight of someone else skipping lines while others wait in a regular queue can stir some discontent. This perk is exclusively for guests staying at Walt Disney World (WDW) deluxe resorts, meaning those who are already spending quite a bit for their WDW trip. This arrangement seems to suggest that it’s not an extra privilege of staying there, but rather an additional expense. It serves to fuel the criticisms that Disney is more interested in maximizing its revenue from guests instead of genuinely catering to them.

While the upgraded version of this Language Learning tool might cost you a significant amount, it could be justified if it significantly improves your Disney park experience. After all, Disney understands that some people are willing to pay more to avoid long lines. So, essentially, it’s a question of whether you prioritize your wallet or the creation of future cherished memories, a dilemma as timeless as theme parks themselves.
