Is the Dota 2 Battle Pass making a comeback for TI 2025?
TeaGuvnor’s recent mention of a potential Battle Pass for The International 2025 has left us all with vivid dreams, and it’s proving challenging to shake off this exciting anticipation.
Two years ago, Valve took a daring step: they discontinued the Battle Pass and instead concentrated on improving the game. This change was anticipated to continue into The International 2025. However, over these past two years, fans have encountered a mix of sweet and sour feelings. Without a Battle Pass, the prize pool has diminished noticeably, causing Dota 2’s largest tournament to no longer hold the title of “the highest monetary reward in esports competition earnings.
Previously, the Crownfall event was well-received by numerous gamers last year. Yet, it wasn’t primarily designed for eSports enthusiasts. Nevertheless, it succeeded in attracting both old and new players to Dota 2. However, as time moves forward, the game content seems to be dwindling.
1) The Compendium is likely to be close at hand soon. While players find joy in the talent voice lines, there seems to be a gap in mythic Battle Pass rewards: progression of the prize pool, three levels of treasures, arcana contests, and event-specific arcanas. However, this year might bring a change, as Robson “TeaGuvnor” Merritt’s post on Reddit has sparked interest within the community.
He penned, “It’s been two years since I last caught a whiff of something, but I’m hoping that this time it’s here to stay rather than just a fleeting instance.
Let’s do some theorycrafting.
Are there any reliable leaks for the Dota 2 Battle Pass in 2025?
Short answer: No.
A supposedly leaked screenshot of a Battle Pass with Broodmother and Terrorblade arcana designs has been circulating, but it’s been verified as false. The designs were sourced from the Workshop and haven’t received enough upvotes yet. Additionally, arcanas usually appear later in the progression, not around level 100, which further casts doubt on the image’s authenticity.
Yaroslav “NS” Kuznetsov, a figure often relied upon for his accuracy, shared what appeared to be an authentic leak, suggesting the Battle Pass would debut on June 19. Given NS’s past success in leaking reliable team and player information, this seemed plausible. However, neither the Battle Pass nor any update arrived on June 19 or June 24, the day the 7.39c patch was released instead.
“Some event/BP will be released on the 19th, remember this post,” NS wrote on Telegram.
A portion of his supporters speculate an event could occur on July 19th, yet it’s challenging to accept that the current streamer would have overlooked an entire month when setting the date.
Community’s reaction to the lack of Battle Pass 2025
People still believe. We still believe.
The Dota 2 subreddit abounds with Battle Pass memes, some of which are more amusing than others. However, it’s common knowledge that Valve can be influenced by community sentiment, hence the need to spread the word about u/TrickyElephant’s grandmother who is still imprisoned in a cage until this year’s Compendium is released by Valve.
Without being flippant, it’s thrilling to observe the community unite as The International approaches. Instead of criticizing Valve, they’re merely expressing hope for the Battle Pass’s return in 2025 or perhaps news about Crownfall 2. We all yearn for TI to regain its title as the premier esports event of the year once more.
Luckily, the game remains vibrant with regular updates, a bustling community post-7.39, and tournaments that spark excitement once more.
