Is that Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen in the House of the Dragon finale?

As a devoted fan with over a decade of Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire lore tucked under my belt, I must say that the season 2 finale of House of the Dragon left me absolutely spellbound! The intricate weaving of past and future storylines, as evidenced by Daemon Targaryen’s vision, was nothing short of masterful.

In the final episode of the second season of House of the Dragon, which was broadcast on HBO and Max, Daemon Targaryen (played by Matt Smith) is instructed by Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin) to touch a weirwood tree. This act triggers a vision for him about the future, where he briefly catches glimpses of the White Walkers, antagonists that will have a significant impact in the series Game of Thrones, which is set approximately 100 years later and features Daemon as a deceased character. Additionally, he sees an image of Brynden Rivers, also known as Bloodraven or the Three-Eyed Crow, a key figure in George R.R. Martin’s fantasy lore.

In this scene, he perceives a picture of a young woman with silver-white hair, who is sitting bare, surrounded by three miniature dragons. This undeniably portrays Daenerys Targaryen, famously played by Emilia Clarke in the series Game of Thrones. To be precise, it’s a depiction of Daenerys at the end of season 1 finale titled “Fire and Blood,” where she enters Khal Drogo’s funeral pyre and miraculously wakes up alive, discovering that her dragon eggs from the first episode have hatched.

It’s almost undeniable that the character we saw was Daenerys, but it’s highly unlikely that Emilia Clarke was physically present during filming. The scene in question featured only the younger Daenerys from behind, and the entire sequence relied heavily on digital effects to create an otherworldly feel. If the show had actually used Emilia, they would have shown her face to maximize the emotional impact of that moment.

Regarding Clarke, she hasn’t watched “House of the Dragon” yet, as far as I know from her statement in June this year. She expressed, “I still can’t,” suggesting a continued unwillingness to watch it. She seems content and happy with her previous experience that watching the new series might feel strange for her.

Well, now that House of the Dragon has introduced some familiar faces from Game of Thrones, who knows what they might do to raise the stakes even further in upcoming seasons?
