Is [Spoiler] really dead after that heroic moment in Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 5?
As a dedicated fan with over a decade of binge-watching sci-fi series under my belt, I must admit that Snowpiercer has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions. But tonight’s episode was a gut punch that left me reeling!
The thrilling installment of Snowpiercer left us spellbound once more. It appears that yet another original cast member has bid farewell in the series’ final season.
Caution: This post contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 5.
In the latest installment, Layton found himself facing a difficult decision: surrender Big Alice for his daughter’s safety or stand firm. Seeking advice from Ruth and Alex, he ultimately opted to make the sacrifice. It was little Liana who had brought them all together initially.
As a passionate fan, I couldn’t help but anticipate the moment when Big Alice would return to New Eden. This expectation escalated significantly once it was revealed that Wilford had been in cahoots with Milius all along. Consequently, it came as no surprise to witness Ben, Till, Ruth, and Alex collaborating diligently to devise a means of escape from their captivity.
Ben makes the ultimate sacrifice to free Big Alice in Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 5
Ben and Till successfully collaborated in transporting several individuals to Big Alice. Among them was Miles, a crucial detail as the series unfolds towards its conclusion, given his role. The task at hand required an engineer to operate the train.
Alex chose to remain in place, as she’s eager to delve deeper into understanding her recurring nosebleeds, which she believes can be done more effectively at the silo. On the other hand, Layton and Josie found themselves stranded at different sections of the silo/Snowpiercer. In this situation, only Ruth had the ability to make it to Big Alice.
It wasn’t as simple as disconnecting the two trains, though. Ben needed to do a manual override, and that’s when it sunk in for everyone. Ruth pointed out that there was no manual override inside the train and there were no suits. He would have to go outside without protection, and they were exiting the silo at this point. Till raced to the door at the base of Big Alice to watch as Ben opened his section to get to the latch.
Up until then, Till could only stand by and witness Ben’s struggle against the bitter cold. Despite his efforts to release the trains, he failed to regain access indoors. In a sense, this outcome echoed the poignant ending of Season 2 of “For All Mankind,” which was equally moving.
Could Ben come back in Snowpiercer?
Absolutely, we’ve encountered characters who have frozen and then resurrected, like Josie did in the initial season. It’s possible that Ben might be revived, but it seems rather improbable. Given Ben’s unpredictability, Milius likely wouldn’t want him back. He prefers individuals he can manipulate. The only scenario where he may reconsider is if Ben could serve as a test subject for his Animal Squad project in some way.
I reckon this might be it for Ben in Snowpiercer Season 4. It seems like his journey has reached its conclusion, but at least he went out as a hero. Given my years of watching and analyzing TV shows, I can say that a character’s death as a hero is often an emotional and impactful way to end their arc.
