Previously, Bill Lawrence, a co-creator of “Shrinking”, has shared that there was an initial three-season outline for the series. This point was brought up by Jesse David Fox on the “Good One” podcast. Subsequently, he inquired whether Season 3 seemed like a concluding chapter to Segel. In reply, the actor and co-creator of what I would deem as one of Apple TV+’s top shows stated:
It’s quite possible that this might be the last season, given our lengthy tenure together. It’s thriving and we’re enjoying it immensely. Despite my doubts, there’s always a chance it could be the final season. However, one can never truly predict these things. Truthfully, we’re having a fantastic time, and I believe there are still plenty of creative ideas to keep the stories fresh.
Towards the close of 2024, following the final episode of Season 2 for “Shrinking,” the Los Angeles Times inquired whether the series could extend past Season 3, to which the showrunner replied that “the story concludes in three seasons.” He added that viewers might find it less enjoyable if the main narrative revolved excessively around Jimmy’s grief over his wife and attempts to raise his daughter.
Moreover, he mentioned that with Season 3, they intend to include “hidden clues” that could foreshadow the plotline for Season 4.
Indeed, all that data aligns perfectly with the argument Jason Segel put forth. As one storyline concludes, they’re not suggesting the series is over. The actor portraying Jimmy clarified this point.
The real truth of when the show will end is when we, as creators, call it.
Currently, given my optimistic nature, I find myself feeling extremely encouraged as I read this, as it appears that the show “Shrinking” may continue well past Season 3. It seems that Jason Segel and his team are eager to carry on telling this story, suggesting that they plan to launch a fresh chapter with Season 4.
It’s clear that the actor from “How I Met Your Mother” understands that the series might be terminated unexpectedly. Yet, for now, it appears as though its conclusion is not imminent.

I’m particularly fond of such mindsets. Indeed, “Shrinking” was among my top shows in 2024 and ranks high on my list of all-time favorite comedies. Frankly, I’d adore if it could continue indefinitely. Yet, I also value a production that understands when to conclude. The last thing I want is for the series to linger past its prime and deliver a narrative that fails to meet the high standards set by the ones we’ve already enjoyed.
It appears that Jason Segel shares a similar mindset, suggesting that it’s likely we can watch more than three seasons of “Shrinking” on Apple TV+ if the production team continues creating it, given their indications of ongoing work.
