Is a triple-A Invincible video game in development?
As a hardcore gamer with years of experience under my belt, I’m always on the lookout for new and exciting superhero experiences to immerse myself in. And one property that’s been making waves in the comic book and entertainment world lately is Robert Kirkman’s Invincible.
Robert Kirkman’s “Invincible” comic series is currently one of the most buzzworthy superhero stories. With an animated adaptation already successful on Amazon Prime Video, and a live-action film under development, there are now whispers of a possible video game from Skybound Entertainment.
Invincible has crossed into video games before. Fortnite players are able to purchase a Guardians of the Globe set that allows them to play as Invincible, Omni-Man and Atom Eve. There’s also a licensed mobile game, Guarding the Globe. Moreover, there have been plenty of concepts of what an Invincible game could look like; look no further than those GTA V mods that lets you destroy Los Santos as Omni-Man.
Invincible, unlike Batman and Spider-Man, hasn’t received the “triple-A” video game adaptation yet. However, this situation might change soon. According to Skybound co-founder Jon Goldman, some projects are underway. He hinted at potential job openings in the gaming industry and encouraged fans to stay tuned for updates on Invincible’s IP. So keep an eye out for developments!
CEO David Alpert expressed a similar opinion. “A great deal of skilled video game professionals have recently joined Skybound,” he noted, adding, “We’re all excited about the promising project they’ll be working on.”
As a gamer, I can tell you that both Batman and Spider-Man have become fan favorites in the video game world. Their unique combat styles translate perfectly into interactive experiences. However, creating a game for a character like Invincible, who’s virtually indestructible to bullets, poses a significant challenge. In response to this dilemma, Goldman offers an intriguing suggestion: “If only there existed a race of incredibly strong enemies that I, Mark, would find difficult to overcome…”
A “Invincible” video game announcement is still absent. Since a major film production is underway, it’s possible that the game’s launch may coincide with the movie’s release. Stay tuned for updates.
Turns out, Robert Kirkman isn’t a big fan of Batman
In creating a top-tier video game, the “Batman: Arkham” series is an undeniable inspiration. It sets the bar high for superhero games. Interestingly enough, Robert Kirkman, the brain behind “Invincible,” has admitted to not being a major fan of Batman.
I admit, Batman isn’t really my cup of tea. In The Walking Dead: Deluxe #91, I penned down that confession. I didn’t delve deeper into why, leaving my feelings towards the Dark Knight a mystery. Maybe his enigmatic nature is what keeps some people guessing, or perhaps it was just a passing thought in that particular moment. As for Invincible season 2, they poked fun at Batman when Mark wandered into an eerily Gotham-like city and chatted with a man who clearly wasn’t the Caped Crusader himself.
