Ironheart’s Timeline Mystery: What Happens After Wakanda Forever?
The main actor of Ironheart has clarified the time gap between Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and the upcoming Marvel Studios series, Ironheart. Although there is a substantial difference in their release dates (from November 2022 to June 2025), these two productions share a close narrative connection.
During an exclusive chat with David Thompson at TopMob, Dominique Thorne, the star of Ironheart, discussed the evolution of her character Riri Williams since her debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She admitted that Riri had created a considerable amount of chaos in Wakanda Forever, and the upcoming series will delve into the potential consequences her actions may have on the world.
As a cinema enthusiast, it’s clear that she’s left quite an impression, not all of it good. It’s become evident that she needs to take a step back and deeply ponder, “Alright, what does it signify for me to materialize and share the ideas swirling in my mind?” This realization dawns on her that her thoughts might have consequences beyond just herself.
Thorne went into more detail about how Riri is dealing with the emotional fallout following her Marvel Cinematic Universe introduction, all while continuing to advance, “Riri is struggling within herself:
Now, realizing the world is far larger than she initially believed, she’s compelled to explore more deeply due to this extraordinary, unpredictable adventure. It’s clear Riri isn’t one to dwell on emotions, so she embarks on this journey while still grappling with the consequences of her actions. This struggle lies within her.
In terms of when the Ironheart storyline unfolds in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thorne declined to specify the exact time since the occurrences of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. However, he did indicate that Riri has had “some time to pause, think, regroup, and recover.
I can’t reveal too many details, but it’s clear that the events happen after ‘Wakanda Forever’. This is a point where she’s taken some time to rest, think, and gather herself. We’ll discover if she’s utilized this time wisely or not.
After head writer Chinaka Hodge verified that the storyline for “Ironheart” takes place following the conclusion of “Wakanda Forever,” making it the earliest project within Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, despite being the last to be released. This positioning in the timeline places “Ironheart” around early 2025, more than two years before the events depicted in “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Thunderbolts,” which are scheduled for 2027.
Although it seems out of sequence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline, Ironheart promises to create quite a stir, potentially even more so if Ironheart features in Avengers: Doomsday, a potential future event hinted at by Thorne. Starting June 24 on Disney+, the first three episodes of Ironheart will be available, with Thorne working alongside Anthony Ramos as Parker Robbins, also known as The Hood, a villain who introduces magic into Riri’s realm dominated by science.
The most recent preview hints at an innovative upgrade for Iron Man’s suit, combining his technology with Doctor Strange’s mystic magic, paving the way for Riri to create her unique identity. With Ryan Coogler overseeing production and Chinaka Hodge as the head writer, Ironheart promises to combine the best elements of two Marvel Cinematic Universe heavyweights in an exciting new path.
When Does Ironheart Take Place After Black Panther 2 on the MCU TImeline?
The sequence of events in the Multiverse Saga spans several years within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), intertwining tales that unfold before and after Avengers: Endgame. Although most Phase 5 productions take place in 2026 and 2027, Ironheart is set much earlier. Despite being scheduled for release at the conclusion of Phase 5, it will eventually be positioned as one of the earliest stories within the Multiverse Saga when its chronological placement in the MCU is confirmed.
In essence, the latest events as depicted in the post-credits scene of Thunderbolts, roughly set in late 2027, are considered the most accurate storyline. The unusual positioning of Ironheart’s timeline underscores the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s innovative narrative strategy as it prepares for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars to conclude the Multiverse Saga.
