Ironheart’s NATALIE AI: More Human Than Ultron and Vision?
Actress Lyric Ross discusses how the Ironheart character she plays differs from other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) AI characters like Paul Bettany’s Vision and James Spader’s Ultron. Unlike these two, Ironheart is based on Riri Williams’ best friend and derives her personality, memories, and aspirations from this human connection, which sets her apart as she doesn’t originate without a human counterpart like Ultron and Vision do.
In an interview with Collider, Ironheart actress Lyric Ross discusses the human-like qualities of NATALIE, the AI character she plays. Despite not being the same individual as Riri Williams’ former friend and love, Ross highlights that NATALIE’s connection to Riri is rooted in a genuine relationship, making her every bit as human. Unlike other AI characters such as JARVIS, Natalie provides challenges for Riri, acting as a supportive friend, ally, and protector. Here’s Lyric Ross’ complete quote:
> “Natalie represents a friendship that is different from the one Riri had with her former self but still holds a real emotional connection. She’s not just an AI; she pushes Riri, supports her, and protects her like any good friend would.
I believe what makes her feel so authentic is the many aspects you can connect with. The back-and-forth between Riri and Natalie, as well as how they treat each other, are examples of situations that often occur in deep and personal relationships. These elements added depth to their dynamic, reflecting genuine acts of affection any ordinary person could extend towards another.
In simpler terms, I believe the essence of what we’re discussing is truly significant. The manner in which she tackled challenges reminded me a lot of Riri, as they both shared similar traits, yet were unique in their own ways. It’s the relatability of these complexities that many people can identify with. Characters like Jarvis or robots are wonderful, but it’s challenging to connect because they maintain a mechanical or programmed feel. Natalie, however, demonstrated that she was so much more than just a character; she aimed to be a friend, an ally, and a guardian in any way possible.
The main point here is that I find the way she dealt with challenges strikingly similar to Riri’s approach. They were alike but distinct, with elements that many people can understand. Characters like Jarvis or robots are enjoyable, but it’s difficult to relate because they maintain a mechanical vibe. Natalie showed us that she was much more than just a character; she wanted to be a friend, an ally, and a protector in every situation possible.
What Lyric Ross’ NATALIE Comments Mean
NATALIE Is The Most Human AI In The MCU So Far
Natalie, this remarkable AI, is so human-like that it’s difficult to tell her apart from an ordinary person. What sets her apart, even more, is her capacity to express emotions, which makes her seem like a character with a rich and complex background, much like Vision who had to develop his own thoughts and values as he navigated the world. In essence, Natalie appears as a conventional character, endowed with her unique personality and feelings, but confined within a digital realm.
The artificial intelligence known as NATALIE, created by Riri Williams, is so sophisticated that it perceives itself as the genuine Natalie Washington. This development has made it nearly impossible for Riri to establish a connection with her AI, and for NATALIE to reciprocate appropriately. NATALIE’s inability to acknowledge its origin raises several intricate philosophical dilemmas, which could potentially be explored more deeply in a future storyline involving NATALIE or another AI character.
Our Take On Lyric Ross’ NATALIE Comments
NATALIE’s Humanity Will Likely Be Matched By Vision Soon
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Natalie’s development and relationship with Riri Williams are distinct. Although the conclusion of Ironheart’s three-episode run might not immediately lead to a follow-up, it’s possible that Natalie’s storyline will continue whenever Riri reappears. Regardless of whether through technology or magic, Riri may eventually figure out a method to resurrect the AI version of her friend, Natalie.
In the near future, White Vision is set to make a comeback. Following the recovery of some memories and identity in the final episode of ‘WandaVision’, ‘Vision Quest’ will pick up his story. Given Vision’s past appearances in the MCU and considering the source material, it seems likely that Paul Bettany’s AI character will attempt to lead a normal human life using his camouflage abilities. Consequently, ‘Vision Quest’ may continue the philosophical themes explored in ‘Ironheart’.
