Irish crime drama Kin gets season 3 update after BBC iPlayer success

As a long-time fan of gritty Irish crime dramas and someone who’s spent countless hours binge-watching shows like “Love/Hate” and “The Fall,” I must say, Kin has truly stolen my heart. The second season was an absolute rollercoaster that kept me on the edge of my seat, and I simply can’t get enough of Emmett J Scanlan’s portrayal of Jimmy Kinsella.

Kin star Emmett J Scanlan has shared an update on a possible third season of the Irish crime drama.

Back in early 2023, I was thrilled to witness the premiere of a highly praised show on RTÉ in my homeland, Ireland. Later, in February 2024, the good fortune spread across the Irish Sea as UK viewers like myself got to enjoy it on BBC One and iPlayer.

Although the third season hasn’t been officially announced yet, the outstanding performance of Kin on BBC has sparked some intense competition among potential producers during ongoing discussions, as reported by Scanlan.

As I was chatting with folks on This Morning recently, I shared that I’m not sure if we’ll see a third season of the show. The decision hasn’t been made yet, they haven’t given us the go-ahead (or “greenlit”) for now.

There seems to be a hint of intense competition, almost bordering on a potential auction-like scenario.

“But there is a lot of interest in it. I hope it comes back again. I would love to take on the role of Jimmy again. I’d love to.”

Previously, Scanlan expressed optimism to RadioTimes about potential upcoming episodes.

He mentioned that there seems to be a high demand for it among many potential buyers. However, he couldn’t predict who will eventually purchase it or where it might end up.

I always strive to maintain a hopeful outlook. I really enjoy the program, and I feel nothing but pride for being involved with it. If by some chance we get another season three – given that the viewership figures on BBC iPlayer were enormous – I’d be ready in an instant.

In addition to Charlie Cox from “Daredevil: Born Again”, Aidan Gillen known for his role in “Game of Thrones”, Ciarán Hinds, famously seen in “Belfast”, and Clare Dunne who played in “Spider-Man”, the film “Kin” revolves around the Kinsella family, a local crime group, as they confront the Cunningham cartel following the death of a young boy.

The series was also made available to stream on Netflix in May.

As a gamer, I can catch up with Kin on BBC One and iPlayer here in the UK, or tune in to RTÉ if I’m in Ireland. For my fellow gamers across the pond in the US, you can find it streaming on AMC+.
