Filming for season 3 of Interview with the Vampire is complete, and it’s been announced that the show will return in 2026 as part of the larger Immortal Universe. This season will be based on Anne Rice’s novel The Vampire Lestat, the second book in The Vampire Chronicles series. The story will focus on Lestat’s time as a musician and will also explore his history.
The next season will continue the story after the events of Interview with the Vampire season 2, following the publication of the book by Daniel Malloy. This puts Louis in danger from other vampires, but also allows him to reconcile with Lestat, ultimately setting him up as the central character for season 3.
I was so excited to see that director Jane Wu posted a picture on Instagram of the clapboard from Interview with the Vampire! It means filming for season 3 is officially done. And get this – the production code on the board, ‘306’, seems to confirm the new season will only have six episodes. That’s the shortest season they’ve done so far, which is a little surprising, but I’m still really looking forward to it!

Seeing actor Wu involved suggests that season 3 of Interview with the Vampire is still planned for a 2026 release, as AMC announced earlier this year. It will continue the story within AMC’s Immortal Universe, based on the works of Anne Rice, including The Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witches. Before that, the series Talamasca: The Secret Order will explore the mysterious organization of the same name.
Each season of the Immortal Universe has typically included seven or eight episodes, except for the upcoming Talamasca, which will have six. This new filming information indicates that the characters in Interview with the Vampire will have less time than usual to develop their next storyline, even though there’s plenty of material to work with.
As a big fan of Anne Rice, I’m really excited about the Lestat series. But The Vampire Lestat is a huge book, just like Interview with the Vampire was. Honestly, squeezing all that story into just six episodes feels… ambitious. They might have to leave some things out. I’m guessing, and hoping, they’ll go the multi-season route like they did with the first series, so they can really do the book justice and give all the key plot points the attention they deserve.
Even though the third season of Interview with the Vampire will be the shortest one yet, it’s still predicted to be a significant part of the story, exploring Lestat’s past in more detail. The inclusion of the Talamasca and the wider vampire universe suggests the season’s events will be impactful, potentially compensating for the fewer episodes.
