Vizta Games, a division of MOONTON Games, has unveiled its long-awaited 2D Gothic RPG titled Silver and Blood on both Android and iOS platforms. At GamingonPhone, we had the privilege to interview Stéphane Conicard, the voice director for Silver and Blood, who is also a Venture Capitalist for Theophane and Yggdrasill. During our conversation, he discussed his creative methodology, comparisons with past projects, and numerous other intriguing subjects.

On voicing both Theophane and Yggdrasill with distinct emotion and identity

As a huge fan, I started our chat by inquiring about his method for portraying two incredibly distinct characters. Mr. Stéphane simply put it, “I don’t typically deliberate too much on my approach; they are unique in their own ways.

He clarified, “In other words, I immerse myself in their emotions, personality, thought patterns, and allow that to guide me instead.

Getting into the character through time and instinct

When I inquired about his creative approach, he disclosed that it doesn’t happen instantaneously. Instead, he said, “I usually read the script and then let it simmer for a while,” and further added, “Generally, all the queries get answered after two or three days of pondering over it.

Balancing voice acting and direction in one project

Stephane Conicard isn’t just known for playing iconic roles; one such role is Liquid Snake from Metal Gear, a character I hold dear. I was intrigued to learn about his experiences with this game versus others. To my amazement, not only did he act in it, but he also directed the voiceover for the project itself!

This experience was one-of-a-kind, and he adored it. He expressed this by saying, “The developer was consistently open to addressing questions about the plotline and scenarios.” This proved incredibly beneficial for him, as he noted, “It made my job as a director significantly less challenging.

It was pleasing to learn that he found this project among his favorites, expressing, “The script is exceptional and the acting was simply outstanding.” Additionally, it seemed as if he was elated, saying, “As a director, couldn’t ask for anything better – an engaging plot and talented actors to work with.

Behind the scenes with standout performances and memorable moments

When I inquired about any fascinating backstage stories, he disclosed a couple of memorable instances from the recording session. “Directing Maya Graydon during Piera’s captivating monologue, and working with Kate Nieland’s character was an absolute blast,” he reminisced.

Why game acting feels like opera to him

He made an interesting comparison when discussing video game acting: “Acting for video games is like opera compared to stage plays, it’s more intense and dramatic.” He also expressed his admiration by saying, “I appreciate all the subtle details that are written into the scenes. It’s nothing short of magical.”

He pointed out a unique aspect of video game acting, comparing it to opera on stage: “Acting in games is more dramatic and intense.” He also praised the craft, stating, “The subtext in each scene is like magic to me.

Preparation made the process smooth and challenge-free for the team

Afterwards, we delved into a brief conversation regarding the hurdles and unexpected events he encountered. However, due to his thorough preparation, he asserted that he didn’t come across any significant challenges during the production process. He further emphasized this by saying, “We were well-prepared and ready for whatever came our way.

Capturing the tone of a manga-inspired world in English

He mentioned that the true difficulty was determining “where does the manga universe fit within the English language.” It was about striking the correct balance, avoiding overly cartoonish tones. Fortunately, they managed to find their stride. With a grin, he added, “I believe we’ve nailed it.

A complex script drew him in to the game

When asked about his attraction to the project, he highlighted its intricate script as a key factor. He explained, ‘The narrative is intricate and writing for video games is different from writing narratives.’

He provided insightful suggestions when responding, “It required multiple reads for me to grasp the situation, but the more I delved into it, the more captivated I became.

His advice for aspiring voice actors on mastering emotion and listening deeply

To emerging voice actors, he shared valuable insights, emphasizing that while both intelligence and talent are essential, “people often discuss talent more than they do intelligence.

He emphasized the significance of grasping emotional transitions, pointing out that “making subtle adjustments is crucial.” His key advice is to “pay close attention to the director’s instructions, truly listen.

Letting the characters shine while staying behind the scenes

Reflecting on his work, Mr. Stéphane prefers not to be in the limelight. Instead, he expressed that he’d rather blend into the larger narrative when asked, stating, “If I can fade into the story, then I will have fulfilled my role as an actor and a director.
