Burns survivor Turia Pitt has launched her new book.
2011 saw an Australian athlete sadly engulfed by a wildfire during a 100km ultra-marathon. Now, she’s unveiled her newest venture called “Selfish,” exploring ways to dismantle self-harming rules in one’s life.
On a recent Instagram post, I shared my thoughts about the term ‘selfish’ needing a fresh perspective. I believe it’s high time we reframe this word to motivate ourselves towards self-empowerment and making the necessary choices to prevent burnout.
In her post’s caption, she expressed that it’s commonly advised against being self-centered. Instead, we should prioritize others, consider their needs before our own, and make sacrifices for them.
“I believed that tale, and it ultimately left me exhausted – burned out, as they say. If only I had this book at hand back then.

She explained further that the book was penned for individuals who have experienced feelings of being overextended, disoriented, or living according to someone else’s guidelines.
Selfish, which is Turia’s fifth book, is set to hit shelves in October but can be pre-ordered now.
2023 saw the unfortunate news that the highly anticipated film featuring Brad Pitt, where Home and Away’s Tammin Sursok was set to star, had encountered delays.
In 2019, it was revealed that Tammin would portray the brave athlete who suffered severe burns over 64% of her body in a fire 14 years prior.
But Turia told The Daily Telegraph that further talks with the US-based actress had been put off.
‘That was on the cards but not at the moment,’ the mother of two said of the proposed biopic.
She remarked: “This isn’t a high-priority item for me. Each day, I don’t find myself actively pursuing the idea of making this film. Not at all.
‘Whether or not a film gets made, I don’t really think it is in my control.

She expressed that it seems likely she would participate, saying, “It would feel odd if someone were to make a film and I happened to stumble upon it on television. Quite an unusual experience that would be.
2011 saw Turia overcoming incredible odds when she was trapped by a wildfire during an ultramarathon run in Western Australia.
The Celebrity Apprentice star was left with horrific burns and later became a motivational speaker.
In 2023, she spoke candidly about the impact of the disaster 11 years later, revealing that she contemplated suicide during her initial hospitalization period.
Thankfully, Turia managed to find the strength to keep living and later became an accomplished motivational speaker, inspiring countless individuals by sharing her experiences.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m most recognized by my audience for portraying the character of Dani Sutherland on the beloved series, Home and Away.
The South African-born Australian star appeared in the iconic soap from 2000 to 2004.
Turia shares two sons, Rahiti and Hakavai, with husband Michael Hoskins.
