Insider reveals I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! was almost axed – but one Aussie star saved the series

According to a source, had Dr Chris Brown and Julia Morris continued hosting “celebrity,” it may not have survived, but adding Robert Irwin brought fresh energy. Remarkably, young Irwin appears to have revitalized the show.

Additionally, numerous longtime enthusiasts have stood by this series throughout its tenure, and I believe returning in January is an astute move for the show. Furthermore, there are exceptional individuals involved in the program’s creation and production.

It’s beneficial when you have a strong team who trusts in the success of the show, and behind the scenes, the celebrities are determined to put up a good fight.

An individual close to the situation shared that ITV Australia, responsible for I’m A Celebrity, advocated for the program to remain on air, pointing out that one of its key assets is a contestant named Robert, aged 20.

‘Robert being a star was obviously a part of that pitch,’ they said.

One factor contributing to the continued broadcast of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! was also the unsuccessful revival of Gladiators, a production by Warner Bros.

In response to a significant drop in ratings for “I’m A Celebrity” in 2022, Channel Ten shifted the show from its prime-time January position to April instead.

They replaced it with the Australian Gladiators reboot, which launched with high hopes but failed to sustain its initial viewership.  

With Beau Ryan and Liz Ellis as hosts, the show attracted an impressive viewership of 395,000 city dwellers during its debut in the summer.

Unfortunately, the numbers plummeted to just 196,000 for the second episode.   

The insider commented that when ‘I’m A Celebrity’ aired in January, it proved successful and kick-started a promising year for Network Ten.

They added: ‘Network Ten really felt the pain of launching with Gladiators at the wrong time and they quickly realised that “the jungle” is a better summer series. It belongs in January.

Although relatively new on Australian television screens, he remarkably dethroned longtime comedy icon Hamish Blake from the top position in the 2024 Top Talent Report of the Australian Talent Index.

For the very first time, he made it onto the list and defeated well-known figures such as Andy Lee, Dr. Chris Brown, Natalie Barr from Sunrise, and Sophie Monk with an overwhelming win.
