Inside the incredible Sydney mansion that once hosted Hollywood royalty Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise as it sells for $37.5 million

I was so surprised to hear the incredible Sydney mansion where Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman used to live has finally been sold! It went for a whopping $37.5 million – can you believe it? It really was a home fit for Hollywood stars, and it’s amazing to think about the history within those walls.

In 2000, the couple visited the property as guests of Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, the director and his wife who had owned the large, historically significant estate before them.

Oh my gosh, you HAVE to hear about this house! It’s seriously incredible – this stunning, old Italian-style mansion right in the heart of Darlinghurst. The grounds are HUGE and so beautifully kept, and the house itself? Seven bedrooms, SEVEN bathrooms! It’s like something out of a dream, I’m completely obsessed!

The owners originally put the property, called Iona, up for sale last year with an asking price of $40 million, but it didn’t sell after being on the market for five months.

I was so excited to see it back on the market, and it quickly generated a lot of interest – we’re talking four offers! It sold incredibly fast too, just twelve days after being re-listed. It’s amazing to see a property like that find new owners so quickly.

According to the Wentworth Courier, a family from Sydney’s eastern suburbs purchased the property after a competitive private auction. The final sale price was $10 million higher than initially expected.

In the late 1990s, Baz Luhrmann and his wife, Catherine, rented the property and used it as both a home and an office for their production company, Bazmark.

After finding success with the films *Strictly Ballroom* (1992) and *Moulin Rouge* (2001), the couple purchased the property in 2006 for $10 million.

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise supposedly had a party at their house to celebrate finishing the movie *Moulin Rouge*, shortly before they announced their separation in 2001.

In 2016, production designer Martin, 59, and director Luhrmann, 61, sold their New York home, named Iona, for $16 million to stockbroker Tim Eustace and his partner, Salvador Panui, after relocating.

They made a series of improvements to the estate.

This impressive Sydney estate, built in 1888, is a historic mansion known for its size and beautiful architecture. Originally a private hospital, the 2716-square-metre property is a cherished part of the city’s heritage.

This beautiful home, tucked away on a leafy street in Sydney’s vibrant Darlinghurst, is just a short 2 kilometers from the city center. It perfectly blends luxurious comfort with classic, timeless style.

The house boasts decorative ironwork, beautiful stained glass windows, and patterned tile floors reminiscent of the Victorian era.

Catherine designed the decorative wallpaper that helped maintain the home’s 19th century charm.

This home spans two floors and features several notable spaces, including a cozy private drawing room, a cellar, and a billiards room. The billiards room is particularly impressive, with a beautiful chandelier, a statue, and a fireplace.

There’s also a sitting room, oversized kitchen, butler’s pantry and private dining room.

The primary bedroom takes up a whole corner on the second floor and features a spacious walk-in closet and direct access to a large veranda.

Other highlights include a nursery, a library as well as a private apartment.

Modern touches to the estate include a large pool, entertainment deck and gym.

The expansive grounds also include decorative water features and a Japanese garden.
