Inside Ricky Gervais’ new £14.5M Hampstead mansion: Comedian moves into sprawling property boasting 9 bedrooms, a spa and tennis court but admits it’s NOT his ‘forever home’
As a devoted fan who has witnessed Ricky Gervais‘ meteoric rise to fame and fortune over the years, I must say it’s truly astounding to witness his transformation from sharing a one-room flat above a seedy sauna in Kings Cross to owning a luxurious mansion with a tennis court. It’s almost as if David Brent has swapped his red leather chair for a mansion in the countryside!
Ricky Gervais offers a peek at his freshly acquired £14.5million mansion in Hampstead, boasting nine baths, a spa, and an in-house fitness center.
The British funnyman, worth an estimated £120million, purchased the mansion in March this year and says a major factor behind the move was his desire for a bigger garden – to build a tennis court.
Ricky, who is 63 years old, shared photos on his Instagram of his grand entryway, complete with a sweeping staircase, and also a shot of the spacious room he uses as his office, showcasing his many accolades within it.
On Sunday evening, during a vlog on X, The Office actor admitted that the house might not be their “permanent residence,” as his partner Jane Fallon, aged 63, expressed reservations about them dwelling there when they reach their eighties.
Ricky said: ‘I thought the last house was the one I was going to die in.
However, I didn’t perish, and I yearned for a tennis court, which necessitated our relocation to a larger residence with a more expansive yard – all in the pursuit of that coveted tennis court. And as we embark on this new journey, I can’t help but feel exhilarated, as if everything has fallen perfectly into place. The house isn’t even completed yet, but I find myself enamored by it already.
‘But the other day, Jane went ‘we can’t live here when we’re 80’. So that’s like a ticking clock. She said ‘there’s all these stairs’. So I’m going to be moving when I’m 80.’
He added: ‘But I said let’s not move let’s just move in a load of doctors, nurses and security
It might be beneficial to have a resident team member, possibly a friend for some friendly table tennis matches, enhancing the overall living situation.
‘Moving at 80 with all this s*** again. I don’t want to think about it
‘Jane did most of it anyway.’
Ricky and Jane, a couple who’ve been partners for more than four decades, used to reside in a luxurious £10.8 million house located in the heart of Hampstead, North London. They also co-own a property along the river in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, as well as two lavish apartments in New York City.
The impressive newly built mansion features no less than nine bedrooms, among which is a master suite complete with walk-in wardrobes and separate bathrooms for him and her.
Apart from the main spaces, this property boasts a formal living and dining area, an expansive combined kitchen and dining space, a bar and wine storage, along with a fitness center featuring a soaring double-height ceiling.
Ricky demolished the old basketball court and built a new tennis court instead, an action that necessitated approval from the local authorities for its execution.
As a committed enthusiast, I too took out an aged waterwall, a distinctive octagonal pagoda, and several retaining walls during a renovation project reminiscent of Ground Force.
The luxurious mansion contrasts somewhat with the couple’s first property they shared together.
In 2017, Ricky shared that our initial apartment was a single room located in Kings Cross, known for its tough neighborhood environment.
It seems that the location may have been a modest, somewhat shady sauna establishment – the most affordable option for us at the time. The small sleeping area was within the room itself. Remarkably, we were able to reach the refrigerator directly from our bed.
Ricky has significantly increased his wealth over the past few years through a high-value contract he signed with the streaming behemoth Netflix, which broadcasted his recent comedy show “After Life.”
His sold-out standup gigs, his latest called Mortality, are also linked with the streamer.
This year, additional earnings from the popular BBC sitcom The Office (a production he co-authored and co-created with Stephen Merchant) are anticipated to increase following the launch of a fresh American adaptation.
The creator of the American version, Greg Daniels, who portrayed Michael Scott, similar to Ricky’s David Brent character, has initiated this new project that started filming in July.
In an interview with GQ in 2013, Ricky mentioned that The Office and its adaptations have brought in substantial profits.
He said: ‘Yeah, [The Office US has earned me] more than anything else probably I’ve ever done.
‘It’s the gift that keeps on giving, syndication.’
