As reported by The Mirror, Katarina spoke candidly about her friendship with Jodie prior to this year’s competition, acknowledging that they come from ‘different spheres’ or ‘different realms.’
“She exclaimed, ‘Whenever I’m with Jodie, I hardly notice if others are watching me; I feel more like guarding her rather than being aware of myself.'”
Katarina was initially born in Liverpool, but her first year was lived in the sunny Bahamas. Later, her family returned to England and established their home in Halewood.
Upon their return to the UK, the Johnson-Thompson family enrolled their child in a nearby elementary school. It was here that her love for athletics ignited, and it was also where she encountered the future BAFTA-winning actress, Jodie.
Throughout their student years, the pair developed a strong bond since they were classmates at St. Julie’s Catholic High School for girls.
After that, they each embarked on different educational journeys to chase their aspirations. Specifically, Katarina enrolled at Liverpool John Moores University to delve into the field of sports science.
Despite their hectic schedules, they manage to stay connected and often share photos of their outings on social media. These outings range from attending events like Ascot to enjoying cocktails together, all while maintaining their friendship through a WhatsApp group called ‘H*s in Different Time Zones’.
In an interview with Glamour magazine, Comer shared about her close-knit group of friends from Liverpool, which includes Katarina. They have a chat group called ‘Gals Across Town’ because they are rarely in the same location simultaneously. Needless to say, it’s always bustling with activity.
Currently, Jodie is primarily recognized for her role as the relentless assassin character Villanelle, who stars alongside Sandra Oh in the series “Killing Eve.”
When the actress clinched her BAFTA for Best Actress, her jubilant companion lauded her on platform X (previously known as Twitter).
“I’m incredibly proud of @jodiecomer. Her talent is simply remarkable, and it’s wonderful to see her getting the recognition she deserves!”
In a heartfelt Instagram post from August 2017, I proudly declared about my cherished school friend: “What joy to be reunited! You’ve done it, congratulations! My admiration for you runs deep.” The accompanying photo captured the fun we had sipping cocktails together.
In March 2018, when Katarina won her first global gold at the World Indoor Championships, Comer wrote: ‘Your hard work and persistence finally paid off, Kat. We’re all amazed by you and your determination leaves me inspired – Truly a champion right there!’
Currently, the athlete is aiming for Olympic success, and things are moving smoothly in that direction, as the British team athlete is leading the heptathlon following the completion of the first two events.
In her remarkable athletic career, the prestigious Olympic gold medal remains the one honor that she hasn’t achieved yet.
Simultaneously, the acclaimed actress Jodie has hit her professional peak. In April, it was revealed that she will take on a role in the upcoming sequel of the 2002 film “28 Days Later,” with Danny Boyle set to resume his directing duties once more.
