Inside Bob Bryar’s life after My Chemical Romance: From battles with depression to finding new job as real estate agent as drummer is found dead aged 44
As a devoted fan of My Chemical Romance, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of sadness and loss upon hearing about the untimely passing of Bob Bryar. He was not just a drummer; he was an integral part of the band that soundtracked my teenage years, and his departure left a void that could never truly be filled.
In the early 2000s, Bob Bryar, who has since passed away, was a member of an extremely well-known American rock group from that era.
After the drummer left My Chemical Romance in 2010, I found myself facing a challenging struggle with depression and mental health issues.
Previously, he openly acknowledged feeling extremely sad, enraged, and contemplating suicide following his departure from the group, due to speculations about conflicts with his bandmates.
This week, it was discovered that Bob had tragically passed away at the age of 44, in his Tennessee residence, exactly two days prior to Thanksgiving.
Currently, neither the reason for his death nor the person who discovered him have been disclosed, as reported by TMZ.
Serving as the longest-standing drummer for My Chemical Romance between 2004 and 2010, his exit sparked whispers about strained relationships within the band (consisting of Frank Iero, Mikey Way, Gerard Way, and Ray Toro).
As I’ve been following closely, though the band members haven’t explicitly shared the details, various reliable sources have verified that a disagreement or rift has surfaced among us, as reported by MTV.
From 2004, after becoming a member of the band, he continued to play and record music with them in every release they put out, until eventually he left the group.
Back on March 3, 2010, I learned from Frank himself that our band member, Bob, had made a tough, painful choice to part ways with us.
Four weeks ago, My Chemical Romance and Bob Bryar made the decision to end their association, as stated in a post on their official website.
This choice weighed heavily on everyone, and it wasn’t made casually. We sincerely hope he finds success in his upcoming ventures, and I encourage each of you to extend your well-wishes as well.
In the year 2015, Bob openly discussed experiencing feelings of anger and contemplating suicide following his expulsion from the band. He shared insights into a challenging period in his existence, shedding light on it publicly.
Five years ago, following his departure from MyChem, which he later erased from Twitter, he posted: “Five years have passed since I was expelled, and I’ve never felt more hopeless, enraged, and on the verge of suicide than I do now.
Speaking about his mental state, he mentioned, “I’m taking quite a few medications now, and they seem to help a little, but I still struggle daily. Also, someone recently informed me that I won’t return.
He also stated: “I’ve been itching to give playing another shot. How about we do it soon, @MatthewCortez, @LukasPMd, and @saaanch? This might be my final attempt before I consider leaping off a bridge.
Following his retirement from the music industry in 2014, Bob took on new roles as a real estate broker and a dedicated supporter of numerous dog shelters and sanctuaries.
In 2021, Bryar sold his final drum kit that he played with the band, both on tour and while recording their legendary 2006 album “The Black Parade.” He did this to collect funds for a Tennessee-based animal shelter, as reported by Rolling Stone.
‘This is my very last drum kit and it’s ready for a new home. I used this kit when [the band] opened the MTV VMAs in 2005, the following tour, and for some of the [Black Parade] record,’ he wrote in the listing, per the outlet.
Despite plans for My Chemical Romance to embark on a tour in 2025, it wasn’t expected that Bob would be rejoining the group at that time.
This week, it was regrettably confirmed that Bob had passed away, according to TMZ’s report. When his body was found, it appeared greatly deteriorated, and Animal Control later removed his two dogs from the residence.
Officials believe no unusual or suspicious activities, such as tampering with weapons or music equipment, occurred at his residence.
On November 4, the star’s last known signs of life coincided with him posting his final tweets, including one that appeared to be a reference to former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, as it read only ‘TULSI.’
In their present setup, My Chemical Romance features Gerard Way as the main vocalist, Ray Toro on lead guitar, Frank Iero handling rhythm guitar duties, and Mikey Way playing the bass.
