Insane feud erupts between Maserati-driving rich kid and Australia’s most exclusive day spa over an inappropriate bathhouse act he says EVERYBODY else does

In one corner, an enigmatic, Maserati-driving Asian millionaire.

In another scenario, the wealthy real estate tycoon who previously attributed the demise of Millennials’ homeownership aspiration to the luxury of avocado toast.

Honestly, can you think of a feud that better sums up Australia in 2025?

Over the course of the last week, events unfolded in Melbourne that mirrored the scenario you described. Christopher Shao publicly announced his intention to wage a war against Saint Haven, an exclusive health and wellness facility that is owned by wealthy businessman Tim Gurner, who is known for his distinctive widow’s-peaked appearance.

Everything started when Shao openly expressed a firm criticism towards Saint Haven, alleging that one of their staff members had spoken to his elderly mother in a dismissive manner during her visit to the spa.

According to Shao, it seems his mother was given a firm reprimand for bringing her phone into the bathing section of the exclusive club.

Saint Haven advocates for a technology-free setting, which enables its high-end patrons to relax and revitalize more effectively.

However, Shao, at the age of 29, asserts that this regulation is frequently disregarded, even by employees, and suspects that his mother was specifically targeted.

In an angry email to the spa management, he pointed out the irony: it seems contradictory that you forbid phones in the bathhouse while your employees are seen using their own electronic devices there! He then shared this observation on Instagram.

A worker at the bathhouse reprimanded my mother for having her phone there and warned her in a patronizing manner, similar to how a teacher would scold a pupil, saying something like, “I’ll let it slide this time, but please don’t do it again.

Shao found the no-phone policy amusing, since he frequently observes at least five individuals utilizing mobile devices or earphones during his visits to the venue.

A staff member from the clinic emailed Shao, a copy of which was made public, acknowledging that enforcing the no-phone policy has been a persistent issue for the management team.

We usually remind people about not using phones in the sauna to keep it peaceful and considerate for everyone,” they explained.

We aim to keep an area free from phones, which isn’t always simple, but we consistently make efforts every day to uphold this rule.

Saint Haven is said to have a jaw-dropping wait list of 15,000 people.

A luxurious spa, boasting branches in Collingwood, South Yarra, Toorak, and soon to expand into Bondi, slated for a spring 2026 opening, is under the ownership of the contentious real estate magnate, Tim Gurner.

The wealthy businessman, Mr. Gurner, who’s valued at approximately $990 million in Australia, isn’t new to grabbing attention.

In 2017, a controversial figure caused widespread controversy worldwide by stating that millennials could afford homes more easily if they cut back on spending money on smashed avocado meals at cafes.

2023 saw him offering an uncommon apology following his statement suggesting joblessness could rise as a means to humble overconfident employees, which sparked broad criticism and disapproval.

As a devoted observer, I must admit that not much is publicly disclosed about the enigmatic figure, Shao, who’s earned the title of ‘young property mogul.’ Yet, one significant fact that has come to light is his decision to part ways with his Melbourne penthouse in recent times. The sale price was nearly $15million, a testament to the impressive real estate portfolio he’s managed to build up.

Later on, he bought a house, known as ‘Ruin X’, which is located in Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast, having developed an affection for it through social media platforms.

He said, “It’s absolutely unique; there’s no other place quite like it in Australia,” on that real estate site.

‘Being young, it’s my kind of style.

‘I’ve always wanted to move to the Gold Coast so yes, it’s great to get my dream house.’

Previously, Mr. Shao’s Instagram showcased his extravagant lifestyle, featuring an array of Rolex watches (one for each day) and a lineup of high-end automobiles such as a Maserati, Ferrari, a Mercedes 4WD, and a Lamborghini. Additionally, there are images of him inside a Bentley.

However, his Instagram account currently appears empty as all previous posts have been removed, but he continues to share stories providing a brief look into his daily life for 24 hours at a time.

It was recently revealed that Saint Haven intends to launch a 1300 square meter flagship store at Bondi Beach, expected to open in 2026.

Mr. Gurner stated, “Bondi symbolizes worldwide health and wellness, and Saint Haven will elevate this even further. It’s going to offer an unprecedented experience that Sydney hasn’t seen before.

The Sydney club plans to integrate a multi-functional venue that includes a healthful eatery, a professional networking area, and shared workspaces. Additionally, it will feature a state-of-the-art wellness and recuperation center equipped with hyperbaric oxygen chambers, cryotherapy facilities, IV drip stations, and red light therapy beds.

The ‘Ancient Bathhouse’ is going to showcase a warm magnesium pool along with chilly plunge pools embedded in natural rock, as well as a versatile fitness center providing reformer and mat Pilates, yoga, sound therapy, and other activities.

Further Sydney locations are being scoped out.
