Inmate accused of stabbing rapper Tory Lanez is a convicted murderer serving a life sentence
The authorities have recognized 41-year-old Santino Casio, an inmate currently serving a life term for murder, as the suspect who allegedly used a homemade knife to attack rapper Tory Lanez.
On Monday morning, approximately 7:20 a.m., it’s claimed that Casio assaulted Daystar Peterson (also known as Lanez) within a housing unit at the California Correctional Institute in Tehachapi, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
In 2020, Peterson was given a 10-year prison term for the shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion. He was moved to an external healthcare facility for treatment recently and is reportedly in stable health by the prison authorities, as stated on Tuesday afternoon.
A social media account linked to Lanez reported that he was stabbed fourteen times; specifically, seven wounds on his back, four on his chest, two at the back of his head, and one on his face. At 32 years old, the Canadian rapper is said to have experienced collapsed lungs but is reportedly in high spirits and recovering well.
Casio is currently being held in a restricted area as authorities and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office look into the incident of the attack.
In 2004, the individual accused of assault was transferred to California Correctional Institute from Los Angeles County, having been given a life sentence with the chance of parole. This was due to his conviction for second-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, unlawful use of a deadly weapon, and causing serious physical harm, as stated by the CDCR.
While in prison, Casio has been sentenced for two additional crimes.
Back in 2008, he received a six-year sentence due to attacking a fellow inmate with a lethal weapon. Later on, in the year 2018, he was given a two-year sentence for illegally carrying a dangerous weapon within prison walls.

California
In a court decision, rap artist Tory Lanez received a 10-year sentence at a state penitentiary due to his involvement in the 2020 shooting of fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion following an altercation in the Hollywood Hills.
In August 2023, Peterson received his sentence for the shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete. He was found guilty in December 2022 of assault with a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, and reckless gun discharge.
As a passionate cinema enthusiast, I’m sharing an update about the “Savage” musician. She claims that while he’s behind bars, Peterson has persistently targeted her through his fans and internet trolls, attacking her online. In January, a judge in Los Angeles granted her a restraining order against Peterson that lasts until 2030.
