IndyCar: Portland race not being broadcast on NBC

As a dedicated IndyCar enthusiast with years of trackside experiences under my belt, I can’t help but feel a bit disheartened by the current broadcasting situation. Sunday’s Grand Prix of Portland at Portland International Raceway marks the second consecutive race not being shown on NBC, and while I appreciate the shift to USA Network, it’s a bit like switching channels during a thrilling race.

As a long-time IndyCar fan, I’ve been feeling a bit frustrated lately due to the ongoing changes in how these races are being broadcast. This weekend’s Grand Prix of Portland at Portland International Raceway is the third race in a row that isn’t being shown on NBC, which has been my go-to channel for IndyCar races for years. I was initially excited when the first race was a Peacock exclusive on the streets of Toronto, but now, with another race set to air on USA Network, it seems like the shifting broadcast landscape is making it harder and harder for me to catch these thrilling events. It’s a bit disheartening, especially since I’ve built my weekends around watching IndyCar races. Hopefully, the remaining two races in this stretch will find their way onto more accessible channels so I can continue enjoying this sport that means so much to me.

As a longtime racing enthusiast who has followed the IndyCar series for years, I eagerly anticipate watching Sunday’s race in Portland, Oregon. With its natural terrain road course that spans 1.967 miles and includes twelve turns, it promises to be an exciting event. Having attended numerous races at various tracks across the country, I can say that each one offers a unique set of challenges for drivers and spectators alike. This year’s race is especially significant as it marks the fifth of six races on USA Network’s broadcast schedule. I can hardly wait to see how the drivers navigate the twists and turns of this challenging course and compete for the top spot. As I settle in to watch, I’ll be reminiscing about past races and cheering on my favorite drivers as they take on this exciting track.

Today marks the 15th out of a total of 18 races on this year’s calendar (the 14th points-scoring race). The remaining USA Network broadcast for this season is the second race of the doubleheader at the Milwaukee Mile, scheduled for Sunday, September 1.

Portland IndyCar race not being shown on NBC

NBC, in charge of conducting 10 out of the total 18 races (9 out of the 17 points races) on the 2024 IndyCar schedule, hasn’t broadcasted a live race since the second race of the doubleheader at Iowa Speedway on Sunday, July 14. They will not be airing another live race until the season finale, which has been moved to Nashville Superspeedway, on Sunday, September 15.

Over the upcoming weekend, there’s just one race left on both NBC and USA Network each, while Peacock has an exclusive race lined up. The second exclusive event on Peacock is the first race of the doubleheader at the Milwaukee Mile – marking the return of IndyCar racing to the historic Wisconsin oval since 2015 – happening on Saturday, August 31st. As a gamer, I can’t wait to tune in!

As a long-time motorsports enthusiast with years of experience watching races from all around the world, I can confidently say that this Sunday, August 25th, is going to be a fantastic day for racing fans! The BitNile.com Grand Prix of Portland will take place at the iconic Portland International Raceway and I highly recommend tuning in.
