IndyCar: Nashville season finale not being broadcast on USA Network
As a dedicated IndyCar enthusiast who’s been following the races for years now, it’s always a bittersweet feeling when the season is nearing its end. The adrenaline rush of watching nail-biting finishes and the thrill of predicting the winners has been my escape from the mundane routine of daily life.
Approximately two months have passed since a live IndyCar race was aired on NBC, which was the second race of the doubleheader that occurred at Iowa Speedway on July 14th.
After that, a total of five events have taken place. Three of these events took place at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, Portland International Raceway, and the Milwaukee Mile, which were all broadcast live on USA Network.
Two additional races took place, one in Toronto’s city streets and another at the Milwaukee Mile. These events could only be viewed by subscribers of Peacock, with options being either a Peacock Premium subscription or Peacock Premium Plus for viewing access.
Nashville IndyCar finale not being shown on USA Network
Instead, This upcoming Sunday afternoon, NBC will air the rescheduled season finale of their show from Nashville Superspeedway.
2021 saw the addition of a temporary racetrack on the streets of Nashville, Tennessee, with plans to adjust the layout in 2024 as part of its shift to become the final race of the season on the calendar.
Because of ongoing construction on the new Tennessee Titans NFL stadium, the race has been relocated to the four-turn, 1.333-mile (2.145-kilometer) oval in Lebanon, Tennessee for 2024 and beyond. Notably, this track hasn’t seen an IndyCar race since 2008.
This 206-lap competition marks the tenth race of the 18-race season (excluding the exhibition race at Thermal Club in March, it’s the ninth). Despite maintaining its name as the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix since 2021, this event is actually an oval race.
In the race for the championship, Alex Palou from Chip Ganassi Racing is currently ahead of Will Power from Team Penske by 33 points. Both drivers are aiming to claim their third career titles. Specifically, Palou is striving to secure his second consecutive title and third in four years, while Power is trying to achieve two championships in three years.
Don’t forget to catch the live telecast of the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix this coming Sunday, September 15, at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time on NBC. You can find the complete grid for the race right here.
As a die-hard racing enthusiast, I’m pumped about this weekend! Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon is on a roll at this track, having bagged the top spot in 2006, 2007, and 2008. That’s right, he’s a three-time reigning winner here! But let’s not forget about Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood who claimed last year’s victory on the streets of Nashville.
