As a seasoned gamer with years of virtual racing under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement as the real-life IndyCar returns to the legendary Milwaukee Mile this weekend! It’s been a long wait since 2015, and the prospect of a doubleheader is simply mind-blowing.
For quite some stretch after 2015, the legendary Milwaukee Mile hardly seemed likely to host an IndyCar race again, with a general lack of enthusiasm among many that the open-wheel racing series might ever make a comeback at this iconic location.
However, this coming weekend marks a revisit to the 1.015-mile (1.633-kilometer) oval located in West Allis, Wisconsin. This reunion will take place as a twin bill, also known as a doubleheader.
The Hy-Vee Milwaukee Mile 250 races will each consist of 250 laps and will air on Peacock. However, it’s important to note that the initial race will only be available exclusively on Peacock.
First Milwaukee IndyCar race not on NBC or USA Network
This year, the initial Peacock-exclusive event in the IndyCar series was held on the Toronto city streets of Ontario, similar to last year when this method made its debut on the IndyCar schedule and was also broadcast exclusively by Peacock.
On Sunday, you can catch the race at Milwaukee Mile live on Peacock. However, it will also be aired later on USA Network, marking the sixth and last race in their broadcast lineup for this season.
The last race, which is also the tenth and crucial points race for NBC, happens to be the season finale. It’s set to occur two weekends from now at the Nashville Superspeedway.
Since 2008, Nashville has not been a track where IndyCar races have taken place. This means that the last three races of the 2024 season will be held on tracks that collectively have not hosted any IndyCar races since 2016.
Due to renovations at the new Tennessee Titans NFL stadium in downtown Nashville, the 1.333-mile, or 2.145-kilometer, oval track in Lebanon, Tennessee, which has been hosting races since 2021, will reappear on the racing calendar. Previously, the series had raced on the city streets of Nashville.
If you have not yet started a subscription of Peacock Premium or Peacock Premium Plus, do so now and don’t miss the first race of the Hy-Vee Milwaukee Mile 250 from the Milwaukee Mile! Coverage is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. ET.
More recently, it was Sebastien Bourdais who triumphed at the racetrack in July 2015. As for current drivers, Will Power of Team Penske emerged victorious most recently in August 2014.
