IndyCar: Jamie Chadwick embraces 'legend' role for new competition

As a dedicated gamer and motorsports enthusiast, I’m thrilled about Jamie Chadwick‘s involvement in Mobil 1’s new collaboration with Xbox, “Legends vs. Leaderboard Rival Events.” Her achievements as the only three-time W Series champion are impressive, but her down-to-earth attitude and eagerness to compete against gamers and pros alike is what makes this partnership even more exciting.

Jamie Chadwick may humbly deny being labeled as a “legend,” despite her unique achievement of clinching the W Series championship title on all three of its operational years in 2019, 2021, and 2022.

A 26-year-old female racing driver from Britain seized the chance to be involved in a fresh cooperation between Mobil 1 and Xbox. This new initiative, named “Legends vs. Leaderboard Rival Events,” is an extension of their existing partnership with Forza Motorsport. Notably, she’s the first woman in over a decade and a half to secure a win in Indy NXT (previously known as Indy Lights).

Global gamers and motorsports enthusiasts stand a chance to go head-to-head with renowned professionals like three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and Indy Racing League champion Chadwick and NASCAR legend Tony Stewart in this competition. Further announcements regarding participating drivers are yet to be made.

Chadwick humbly replied to Beyond the Flag, “I wouldn’t consider myself a ‘legend,’ so when Mobil 1 approached me and turned it into an opportunity, I was taken aback. It was a no-brainer for me to accept.”

I’m deeply fond of this project and the entire idea behind it, as well as the way everything comes together. It’s an honor to be around some true industry greats, and being invited to join in was truly thrilling.

Legends vs Leaderboard Rival Events set to get underway

Stewart kicks off the event as the initial driver starting August 29, with Chadwick following suit. From August 29 to September 11, fans have the opportunity to race against the up-and-coming motorsport sensation by comparing their lap times at Maple Valley, an in-game racetrack themed after the US with Mobil 1 branding.

Chadwick hadn’t engaged in much virtual racing during her childhood. However, similar to many other drivers in the past five years, her participation in on-screen racing events has significantly grown.

She admitted, “I haven’t grown up much. But with the pandemic, we all had to deal with it heavily. So I did more growing during that time. Now, we often use simulators and racing games for training purposes.”

Additionally, she recognizes the significance of virtual racing for motorsport due to its ability to reach a vast number of global fans.

She confessed, “I may not be particularly skilled at it, but I find it intriguing. It’s an effective method to draw more individuals into our sport and offers additional opportunities with valuable talents applicable in the digital realm and real life.”

She’s new to Forza and unfamiliar with the Maple Valley racecourse, so just like countless other eager spectators, she essentially begins anew in terms of racing experience against us all.

She admitted that she hadn’t driven Forza extensively but found her first experience on this new track and with this car to be enjoyable. The platform, with its diverse tracks and selection of cars, was something she intended to utilize again. Therefore, it wouldn’t be her last time using it.

Chadwick spoke about her gaming setup as she prepares to take on this challenge.

She noted that she primarily used the wheel for this task, but had also experimented with the controller for amusement, as controlling without the wheel and pedals required a distinct set of abilities. However, she confirmed that she had indeed utilized the wheel and pedals during this instance.

At present, there are no confirmed collaborations among Chadwick, Stewart, and the other undisclosed drivers set to join this event. However, Chadwick expresses eagerness for potential partnerships with them, particularly as more names are unveiled to the public.

She confessed her fondness for the idea, adding, “I really want that to come true. I’ll have to encourage Mobil 1 to make it happen because it would be fantastic!”

Chadwick hasn’t revealed the identities of the other “legends” just yet, but she’s confident that fans will be thrilled to discover who they are.

As a seasoned sports fan with years of following my favorite athletes and teams, I can confidently say that the upcoming announcements of some legends joining the event are truly exhilarating. These individuals are not just heroes to me, but also trailblazers in their respective fields, and the thought of witnessing their performances live is a dream come true. The anticipation is palpable, and I’m certain that once these announcements are made, the experience will be nothing short of awesome.

Additionally, she discussed the upcoming racing content series on Mobil 1 Racing’s social media platforms, presented by Natalie Pinkham from Sky Sports F1. This series will cover not just the new project but also Chadwick’s entire racing journey.

She agreed, sharing that the conversation about their careers and experiences in sports was both fascinating and enjoyable for her, as well as likely for others. They discussed the various paths that led them to the sport and the challenges they encountered along the way.

As a gamer, I believe there’s something thrilling about competing against others on the leaderboard. However, don’t get me wrong, engaging in conversation is enjoyable too!
