IndyCar driver announcement leaves one team with empty seats
As a seasoned gamer who’s seen more IndyCar seasons than I can count on one hand (and still have fingers left over), this latest round of team lineup announcements has me buzzing with excitement! The 2025 grid is starting to take shape, and it’s a sight for sore eyes.
For the 2025 IndyCar season, Juncos Hollinger Racing has made their driver roster official, confirming that Conor Daly will be joining the team permanently. He’ll take over from Agustin Canapino who previously drove the No. 78 Chevrolet for the tail end of the 2024 season.
It’s been confirmed that Sting Ray Robb, a previous driver for A.J. Foyt Enterprises, will be driving the No. 78 Chevrolet next year. Meanwhile, Daly is slated to drive the No. 77 Chevrolet, which was previously driven by Romain Grosjean in 2024.
As a racing enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement! With the recent announcement, we now know that 25 out of the 27 full-time seats have been filled for the thrilling 17-race season in 2025. Remarkably, both remaining seats are from the same team, Juncos Hollinger Racing. They join the ranks as the tenth of eleven full-time teams to finalize their driver lineup. The anticipation is building!
Dale Coyne Racing have not yet confirmed any drivers for the 2025 IndyCar season.
2024 marked the team’s first instance of having no full-time driver since 2015, an occasion that also coincided with their initial season without a podium appearance since 2015. For the first time in over three decades, they failed to secure a single top 12 finish, a feat last achieved by the team when Dale Coyne was still behind the wheel in 1987.
For the 2025 season, there are several high-profile free agents yet to secure a ride, and they could be potential valuable additions for Dale Coyne Racing. This list includes Romain Grosjean, Rinus VeeKay who previously won at Ed Carpenter Racing, and Linus Lundqvist, the 2024 Rookie of the Year who unfortunately found himself without a team after Chip Ganassi Racing reduced their number of cars from five to three.
For the upcoming 2025 race season, both the No. 18 Honda and the currently unassigned No. TBD (previously No. 51) Honda have been included in the list of 25 teams granted entry. Consequently, Juncos Hollinger Racing’s choice to field only one car implies that 23 out of these 25 chartered cars will be driven by full-time racers next year.
In this competition, only Prema Racing will be fielding their entire team without using charters. Robert Shwartzman will pilot the number 83 Chevrolet, while Callum Ilott will man the number 90 Chevrolet.
2025’s IndyCar season opener will be broadcasted live by Fox, with the action kicking off from the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time this coming Sunday, March 2nd.
