IndyCar: 2024 Portland qualifying updates, full starting lineup

As a seasoned gamer who’s followed IndyCar for years, I can’t help but feel a rush of adrenaline when I see such a packed schedule! Four races in 16 days? That’s like driving from my hometown to the farthest corner of the country and back – all within a fortnight!

Following my recent four-week hiatus, courtesy of NBC’s broadcasting of the Summer Olympics in Paris, France, I find myself smack dab in the heart of a whirlwind schedule: four IndyCar races within just 16 action-packed days!

The second race along that section is the BitNile.com Grand Prix of Portland, set for Sunday afternoon at Portland International Raceway.

The upcoming race, spanning 110 laps, takes place on a winding, 12-turn, 3.166-kilometer natural terrain road course in Portland, Oregon. This event marks the 14th of 17 races scheduled for 2024, and it is the sixth and last road course race on the schedule.

Since 2018, when Portland re-entered the IndyCar schedule, the race has been won from diverse starting positions. While five out of the last five races were won by drivers who started as high as 20th place, an interesting trend is that three out of these five winners began their races on the front row, with two of them starting from the pole position.

2021 saw Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing clinch his inaugural championship by winning the race from the starting pole position. Interestingly, he secured his subsequent title last year by starting fifth on the grid and ultimately emerging victorious.
