Popular actress Myha’la admits she now feels hesitant to kiss her co-stars in scenes, ever since marrying Armando Rivera last year.
The actress known for her role as Harper Stern on the popular HBO series has appeared in several of the show’s most explicit scenes, including group sexual encounters and, most recently, a scene with a sex toy.
But after she secretly married partner Rivera in 2025, Myha’la, 29, believes kissing is ‘sacred’.
She described the experience to The Independent as very strange, but said she’s always been comfortable with physical contact on set. She views a kiss as simply part of the job and is generally good at separating work from personal life.
Kissing felt deeply personal, almost sacred – like a unique experience no one else could share.
Myha’la has shared that getting married means she’ll likely be more selective about what she’s comfortable with in intimate scenes.
She shared with Glamour Magazine that her first intimate scene after getting engaged felt awkward. She admitted she didn’t even want to kiss her scene partner.
‘I was absolutely getting my cheeks clapped, but I was like, “No kissing!”‘
The actress explained she sets firm limits on how intimate scenes are filmed to ensure her own well-being.
When I’m moving, I prefer not to be filmed from head to toe in a single shot. And I definitely don’t want any close-ups that include pubic hair.
Myha’la expressed her gratitude for the growing use of intimacy coordinators in the entertainment industry, explaining that they empower her to have control over her work and make her own decisions.
Industry is a show that follows a group of recent college graduates as they navigate the competitive and often ruthless world of high finance. It portrays not only the intense pressure to succeed, but also the wild and sometimes scandalous behavior of the bankers outside of work.
The show is notorious for its explicit content, depicting a world of high finance followed by wild, drug-fueled parties and casual sex. One critic famously summarized it as a cycle of ‘work hard, play harder,’ highlighting the characters’ intense professional lives and equally excessive nightlife.
Earlier this month, the actress announced her marriage to Armando by posting wedding photos on Instagram. She explained in the caption that the ceremony was a private event, attended only by close friends and family.
The actress wore a beautiful white lace dress when she and her husband renewed their vows after being together for five years. The ceremony was small and intimate.
She shared a post celebrating her one-year wedding anniversary, jokingly apologizing to anyone just finding out now and explaining they hadn’t told many people.
The ceremony was quick and seamless thanks to officiant JoJo Plutz. We’re incredibly thankful to our friends and family for making our wedding day so special!
Lots of her celebrity friends immediately expressed their support, and her co-star, Marisa Abela, described it as incredibly heartwarming and genuine.
Myha’la shared that she and Armando first connected when he messaged her on Instagram during the lockdown period.
In a 2024 interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, she shared that because of pandemic lockdowns, she had time to browse Instagram. That’s where she found a message from her future husband congratulating her on the release of her show, Industry.
She simply said thank you in response, but then woke up to several video messages from Rivera. Although she was reluctant to watch them, she admitted she thought his profile was ‘kind of cute’ when she looked at it.
I recently spoke with Armando about his fascinating journalism project. He reached out to Myha’la for an interview, and what he expected to be a quick ten-minute conversation over Zoom blossomed into a really engaging, forty-minute discussion! They clearly connected and had a lot to talk about – it’s always wonderful when a conversation flows like that.
We got off, and I immediately thought, ‘This is strange, but I think I’m falling for him,’ she explained. She told me that she contacted him a few days later, and Armando then asked for her phone number.
Myha’la and her partner had several dates over FaceTime before they met in person in early 2021. She told W Magazine that despite him being in school in San Francisco and her being from San Jose, the distance was manageable – just a 50-minute drive.
Myha’la said holding hands for the first time felt magical, and after that, they were always together.
