Industry star Myha’la reveals she secretly married her partner Armando Rivera last year after they met when he slid into her DMs during lockdown

Singer Myha’la shared that she and Armando Rivera have been married for over a year, celebrating their first wedding anniversary on Instagram.

The 29-year-old actress has been starring as Harper Stern in the popular HBO series since 2020. She previously revealed that she met her husband when he messaged her on Instagram during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Myha’la announced her marriage to Armando by posting wedding photos on Instagram. She explained in the caption that they had kept the ceremony small and private, sharing the news only with their closest loved ones.

The actress wore a beautiful white lace dress as she and her husband celebrated their marriage. They had a private ceremony after being together for five years.

She shared a post celebrating her one-year wedding anniversary, jokingly apologizing to anyone just finding out now and explaining they hadn’t told many people.

‘Incredible photography by our dear friend @quillemons.

The ceremony was quick and efficient thanks to officiant JoJo Plutz. We’re incredibly thankful to all our friends and family for making our wedding day so special.

Lots of her celebrity friends immediately expressed their support, and her co-star, Marisa Abela, described it as incredibly heartwarming and genuine.

Myha’la shared that she and Armando first connected when he messaged her on Instagram during the COVID-19 lockdown.

In a 2024 interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, she shared that because of pandemic lockdowns, she had extra time to browse Instagram. That’s where she found a congratulatory message from her future husband about her show, Industry, first airing.

She simply said thank you in response, but then found a bunch of video messages from Rivera waiting for her. Although she was reluctant to watch them, she admitted she thought his profile was ‘kind of cute’.

Armando was interviewing Myha’la for a school journalism project. He’d planned a quick, 10-minute conversation over Zoom, but they ended up talking for a full 40 minutes.

We got out of the car, and I realized I had a crush on someone I’d just met – it was so strange, she explained. She told me that a few days later, she reached out to Armando, and he asked for her phone number.

Myha’la and her partner had several dates over FaceTime before they finally met in person in early 2021. She told W Magazine that the distance wasn’t a problem, as he was studying in San Francisco and she lived in nearby San Jose – just a 50-minute drive away.

I visited my mom in January 2021 and asked if she’d like to get together in person while I was there.

He agreed right away. It was still the height of the COVID pandemic, so I was testing daily, but the results were delayed. I decided I didn’t have time to wait and just went, hoping everything would be okay. I drove to his apartment.

Myha’la said holding hands for the first time felt magical, and after that, they were always together.

After Armando completed his education, he joined her in New York City. She later shared with ELLE magazine that their connection was instant and based on mutual desire, not need. She explained, ‘We weren’t looking for anyone to complete us, but we were definitely drawn to each other and chose to be together, making each other’s lives better.’

Having our own lives and independence actually allows us to connect with others more fully. It’s something I didn’t realize I needed, and now I feel incomplete without that kind of loving connection.

Rivera proposed to Myha’la in July 2024 at the door of their New York City apartment. Feeling overwhelmed by the idea of a big wedding, they opted for a small, private ceremony instead.

Industry will return for a fourth season on January 11. HBO announced the renewal of the show, created by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, back in September 2024.

At the end of season three, Rob quit his job at Pierpoint to start a company focused on psilocybin, while Yasmin married Sir Henry Muck.

Max Minghella, known for his role in The Handmaid’s Tale, will be joining the cast of the show’s next season, it was announced on Thursday.

Max, age 39, will portray Whitney Halberstram, the founder and Chief Financial Officer of Tender, a payment processing company that is rapidly expanding.
