Industry star explains show exit ahead of season 3

As a fan who has closely followed David Jonsson’s career since his days on stage, it’s always a delight to see him grow as an actor and take on new challenges. His recent role in “Alien: Romulus” is a testament to his versatility, demonstrating that he can excel even in the realm of science fiction.

Industry actor David Jonsson has explained why he isn’t in season 3.

In the initial two seasons of the BBC and HBO collaboration on the investment bank drama, Jonsson portrayed Gus Sackey. His character hopped from one job to another, even working for an MP whose son he was romantically involved with. However, in the recently aired third season, his character is conspicuously absent.

During a conversation with GQ to publicize “Alien: Romulus,” Jonsson explained his absence from the new season.

He clarified his perspective by saying, “To put it frankly, the main issue was managing my schedule.” Let me emphasize this point: I’m a big fan of that show, and prior to this, my life revolved around theater. This decision was well thought out.

As a passionate gamer speaking, I received several invitations to appear on TV. Among all the opportunities, what truly captured my interest was the captivating series called “Industry”. We brought it to life, and it evolved into something extraordinary, amassing its own dedicated fanbase. The experience has been incredibly fulfilling for me. To top it off, the individuals I worked with on this project have become more than just colleagues; they are my cherished friends.

However, I strongly believe that for an actor, particularly a budding one, it’s crucial to take some risks and broaden your horizons. Experimenting with different roles is essential.

Despite my deep affection for Gus, I found myself having to… It’s quite simple, isn’t it, for others to merely view you as a character and follow your career trajectory, only to say, “Oh yes, that’s their character.” And I find myself responding, no, no, I am not the kind of actor who is solely defined by a character.

When questioned about potentially returning to his character in a new season, Jonsson was vague, replying: “I’m not sure. We’ll have to wait and see. I hardly know what I’ll be having for breakfast tomorrow.”

In the United States, Season 3 of the Industry series is being broadcast every Sunday night on HBO. Later this year, it’ll make its way to BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK.
