As a seasoned observer of the tumultuous world of finance and its equally turbulent denizens, I must say that Rishi’s escapades in this episode were as captivating as they were disconcerting. It seems that he is a man who thrives on the edge, a high-stakes gambler both on the trading floor and in his personal life.

In tonight’s episode of Season 3, the intriguing tale unfolds further, zeroing in on the character Rishi. While Rishi is recognized as an assertive trader and market maker at Pierpoint, recent events reveal the extraordinary lengths he’ll go to fuel his insatiable thirst for success. Despite having commendable traits, Rishi’s past actions show a pattern of errors, such as his infidelity with Harper on his wedding night – quite a sting!

In an exhilarating yet tense scenario reminiscent of the Sadfie Brothers’ film “Uncut Gems”, the series “White Mischief” offers a gripping portrayal of Rishi’s daily struggles, with more than its fair share of challenges. Here’s a recap of the episode!

After Lumi’s setback, “White Mischief” commences with a gathering at Pierpoint where the group ponders their loss. Although Eric maintains it wasn’t Pierpoint’s blame, the others remain divided in their thoughts. Robert is disheartened he invested so much time collaborating with Henry, while others feel remorseful for letting people down by selling the stock. However, Eric and Rishi express optimism that they’ll discover something fresh and improved in the future.

Rishi and Diana have a strained marriage

In this episode, set during the festive season, we delve into Rishi’s personal life, where he resides with his wife Diana. They have a newborn baby and own several acres in an upscale village that Diana grew up in. At a social event at their home, Rishi makes efforts to fit in among the villagers who are long-time acquaintances of Diana. A man named Nicholas, with a close bond to Diana, seems to cause Rishi some apprehension. While visiting the restroom, Rishi attempts to make a payment on his phone via an adult content app similar to OnlyFans, but his card gets declined as blood trickles from his nose onto his infant. Upon checking his accounts, it becomes evident that he is deeply in debt, with thousands owed.

In a nutshell, Rishi proposes to refurbish the community’s cricket pavilion, but many, including Diana, express opposition to this plan. When everyone departs and they are alone, Diana suggests collaborating on finances, but Rishi declines. Their bond appears tense, encompassing their intimacy as well. Rishi also experiences discomfort in his back, and though they surrendered their pet dog due to possible allergies suspicions, Diana contends it’s stress-related.

Rishi’s in trouble — financially and professionally

As I, a close acquaintance of Rishi’s, found myself unplanned and in his presence, we embarked on an impromptu stroll together, leaving our other companions behind. It soon became evident that Rishi carries a substantial debt to my person, a fact that would resurface throughout the ensuing narrative.

Tomorrow brings difficulties for Rishi at the office, with everyone watching closely following the Lumi IPO. His actions were misjudged, and Anraj criticizes him for exceeding his risk limit by millions in another firm. To make matters worse, HR summons him over inappropriate comments he made in the workplace. They show him a secret Reddit forum called “Overheard at Pierpoint,” where he’s been publicly called out. Despite the lack of concrete evidence, Rishi angrily dismisses their concerns and departs from the meeting.

Eric talks to Rishi, confronting him on being too risky with his positions. He tells him that they’re in crisis mode, and his behavior could ruin Pierpoint. During a coffee run, Rishi waits in line with Sweetpea and calls her out for being on the porn app, presumably who he was looking at earlier in the episode. Things at work get more complicated when he thinks a big update will help his trade but it actually doesn’t. He’s out of luck and everyone is angry.

Vinay takes Rishi in his car, with another man sitting in the back to scare him. Rishi owes money, so he rushes to a bar where his colleagues are and asks them for money they owe from their horse racing bets. He persuades Eric to lend him more cash for gambling. Despite having approximately $8,000 now, Rishi lies to Vinay saying he has no money. Instead, to buy himself some time, he gives Vinay his watch.

Rishi has a big night out

After my gaming session, I decided to swing by a casino, hoping to boost my earnings. To my delight, I ended up hitting the jackpot! To celebrate, I splurged on bottle service at a nearby club, tucking the winnings into an envelope under my seat. The drinks flowed freely, and before I knew it, I was dancing close with a woman – but the fun came to an abrupt halt when a man, presumably her significant other, intervened, leading to a brutal beating for me. Miraculously, I managed to make it out of there with my cash intact, but my reckless spirit couldn’t resist another roll at the casino.

As anticipated, Rishi squanders all his cash gambling at roulette and departs the casino as daylight appears. Unsurprisingly, Diana phones him, irate that he was out the entire night without informing her. Arriving at work looking dreadful, with bruises and blood on his face, he does not escape notice. Eric inquiries about his condition, prompting Rishi to claim he walked into a door before starting work. Anraj suggests his driving license could be revoked for recklessly exceeding the risk limit. Ali starts discussing Rishi in Arabic, which angers him. In summary, spirits are low on the trading floor.

Eric gathers the team for a discussion regarding the subreddit, while Rishi seeks to uncover who exposed him. Robert informs him that his behavior makes others uneasy, and Venetia shares her opinion that his language is disrespectful towards women. He attempts to rally Anraj’s support, but Anraj admits he feels apprehensive about showing up at work due to Rishi.

Rishi wins big at work

On the desk once more, Rishi carries on with his risky behavior, yet strangely enough, it seems to pay off. Word spreads and people reach out to purchase, raking in $18 million for Pierpoint. Anraj is left aghast, expressing disbelief that Rishi isn’t a skilled trader but just lucky. Rishi, intrigued by this comment, asks what the distinction between skill and luck truly is.

In the shared elevator ride, Rishi discovers that Venetia is planning to leave her job, and moreover, she’s the anonymous Redditor who wrote about him.

Upon arriving home, Rishi is met with a flurry of anger from Diana. She yells, tosses objects at him, and accuses him of vanishing all night, as well as sleeping with Harper. They both acknowledge that they never truly desired marriage, despite their affection for each other. Diana is aware of his financial troubles, which he admits amount to a debt of $200,000. He pleads for her parents’ assistance, but this action offends her. She reveals she has accumulated savings from her influencer work and offers to help him financially. This gesture causes Rishi to break down in tears. In response, Diana discloses her infidelity with a local villager, although she refuses to identify the individual when asked about Nicholas.

Rishi and Diana figure it out… sort of

In the evening, as they settle into bed together, Rishi inquires from Diana if she perceives him as a misogynist. He ponders whether he might be battling depression and expresses his longing for their beloved pet, to which Diana concurs that moving into the village was perhaps not the wisest decision. Despite their regrets, they are now in this rural locale and Diana is of the opinion that they should embrace it as their home. Later on, they engage in an intimate moment.

Later on, Rishi enters the structure and starts destroying all items inside, chuckling, until he steps outside where he encounters Nicholas walking his pet dog. He shouts out about him and Diana having a fantastic sexual relationship before returning the dog. The scene concludes with Rishi phoning Vinay, informing him that he has recovered $200,000 but suggesting they wager $50,000 of it. Certain aspects remain constant. (Paraphrased)

In the latest installment, it appears Rishi has reached an all-time low, but by the finale, we understand that this is simply his usual state of being – quite a stressful situation indeed. Despite Rishi not being my preferred character, I found myself captivated throughout and intrigued by insights into his world. Now, on to episode 5! We’ve now reached the midpoint of Industry season 3, and I can hardly wait to see what unfolds next.
