The popular and often scandalous show everyone started watching in 2020 is back with its fourth season, and it’s already proving to be a success.
According to FlixPatrol, the latest season of Bridgerton quickly became the most popular show on Netflix, reaching number one just one day after its return on January 29th. It overtook the popular series His & Hers, and hit the top spot in an impressive 83 countries where Netflix is available.
The series premiered at number nine in the U.S. on January 29th, driven by fan anticipation. It quickly rose to the top spot just one day after its debut.
I’m a huge fan of Bridgerton! It’s based on Julia Quinn’s novels and set in the beautiful Regency era. The show centers around the Bridgerton family and their quest for love. What I love most is that each season focuses on a different Bridgerton sibling finding their perfect match – we followed Daphne in season one, then Anthony, and now Colin’s story is unfolding in season three. It’s just so captivating!
Okay, so Season 4 is finally getting to Benedict’s story – it’s based on the book An Offer From a Gentleman. Honestly, as a fan, I always thought we’d get his romance in Season 3, following the book order, but Netflix threw us a curveball and shuffled things around. It’s a bit frustrating, but I’m still excited to see how Luke Thompson brings Quinn’s story to life!
Colin and Penelope, longtime friends, finally fell in love. The Featherington family has been central to the show since the beginning, and a romance between them felt inevitable. This was especially true as the series also needed to reveal Penelope’s secret: she was the author of the scandalous gossip column, Lady Whistledown, all along.
What Happens in Bridgerton Season 4?
Benedict’s storyline offers a fresh take on the Cinderella tale. The new season introduces Sophie Baek (Yerin Ya) as his potential love interest. They first meet at Violet Bridgerton’s masquerade ball, which allows Sophie, a servant rather than a member of high society, to attend.
Season 4 of Bridgerton welcomes new actors Isabella Wei, Michelle Mao, and Katie Leung to the cast. Returning favorites include Luke Newton as Colin, Nicola Coughlan as Penelope, and Hannah Dodd as Francesca. Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey, who play Kate and Anthony, will be back in the second part of the season after their characters traveled to India at the end of Season 3.
Since its release in 2020, Bridgerton has consistently been one of Netflix’s most popular shows. For a time, it was the only original series to have every season ranked in the Top 10 on Netflix’s list of most-watched shows. However, that changed when Season 2 was no longer featured in the Top 10.
The show has generally been well-received, with critics giving it an 83% approval rating and audiences averaging 72% across the first four seasons. While audience approval currently sits at 69%, the finale could potentially shift both critics’ and viewers’ overall ratings.
Bridgerton Season 4 Part 1 is streaming on Netflix. Part 2 will drop on Feb. 26.
