In first ‘Ironheart’ trailer, Riri Williams is ready to build something iconic

“Ironheart” may have been delayed, but it appears she won’t be denied.

On Wednesday, Marvel Television unveiled a preview of “Ironheart,” with Dominique Thorne playing Riri Williams in the upcoming series. The show was originally announced back in 2020 and Riri Williams first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the 2022 film “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Following the occurrences of “Wakanda Forever,” the storyline for “Ironheart” will find Riri settling back in Chicago where she endeavors to create an impression of her own and build her own legacy, possibly by constructing a state-of-the-art suit of armor tailored to her needs.

In the trailer, Riri mentions after her international internship experience, “I aim to construct something indisputable. Something … legendary.” (This version tries to simplify and make it more conversational while keeping the original’s intent.)

In “Wakanda Forever,” I come across a character named Riri, brilliantly portrayed as an MIT prodigy. Her groundbreaking invention, a vibranium detector, captivates the Wakandans, leading them to recognize her talents. When Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett) heroically saves her life, Riri graciously offers her skills to aid Shuri (Letitia Wright) and the rest of the Wakandans in their fight against their adversaries.

The storyline begins as Rihanna encounters a challenge posed by the enigmatic Parker Robbins, portrayed by Anthony Ramos, who gains powers from the occult when he puts on a mystical cloak.

In the thrilling ‘Wakanda Forever,’ I had the pleasure of witnessing the live-action introduction of none other than Ironheart, or as you may know her, Williams. Here’s a glimpse into the fascinating world of this brilliant young prodigy, skillfully portrayed by Dominique Thorne.

In the trailer, Parker tells Riri, “I recognize you.” He sees that she’s weary, yearning for recognition of her immense talent… and I can provide you with the resources to assist in bringing your vision to life.

Additionally, the trailer provides brief appearances of other characters close to Riri, such as her closest confidante portrayed by Lyric Ross, and a questionable younger fellow, acted by Alden Ehrenreich.

Ryan Coogler, who has worked on ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Sinners’, is one of the executive producers for ‘Ironheart’. Chinaka Hodge serves as the show’s chief writer, while Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes have taken charge of directing all six episodes. You can stream ‘Ironheart’ starting June 24 on Disney+.
