In Another Case Of Mistaken Identity, Emma Stone Admits She’s ‘Called Emma Watson’ Literally ‘All The Time’

Emma Stone is now a hugely famous actress. With two Oscars, roles in well-known movies like Superbad and The Amazing Spider-Man, and five times hosting Saturday Night Live, she’s become a global star. Surprisingly, though, people often mistake her for Emma Watson, the actress from Harry Potter.

It’s common for people to mistake celebrities for look-alikes – for instance, Jesse Plemons is often compared to Matt Damon. But actress Emma Stone recently shared a particularly surprising case of mistaken identity. On the ‘Happy.Sad.Confused’ podcast, she revealed that people consistently mistake her for Emma Watson.

It’s strange that people keep confusing these two actresses. They’re around the same age, but don’t resemble each other, and haven’t even been in a movie together. Maybe people hear the name ‘Emma’ and automatically assume ‘Watson’ instead of ‘Stone’? It’s a really odd mix-up.

Although it sounds unusual, this isn’t the weirdest mix-up Emma Stone has encountered. While people often mistake her for the star of Harry Potter, she remembered an even stranger error someone made. According to Stone,

The day after turning twenty-eight, I went to see Alan Cumming perform at Carnegie Hall with my friend Noah. As we were finding our seats, someone approached us and asked for a photo. I politely explained that we were busy trying to get settled, which understandably annoyed him. He then said, ‘I really enjoyed your work on Will and Grace.’

You know, people kept mistaking me for Debra Messing! I guess having red hair probably contributed to the confusion. It’s funny, because I’m actually twenty years younger than she is. I had a good laugh about it, and I mentioned…

It’s funny, someone once mistook me for Debra Messing, and my friend Noah still calls me that! It’s been nearly ten years, and the nickname has definitely stuck – I’m ‘Debra’ to him forever.

Honestly, it’s frustrating to see the same acting mistakes repeated, but I guess it’s just inevitable. Still, another Oscar win for Emma Stone would be amazing, and I think she’s got a real shot with her new film, Bugonia. She’s absolutely fantastic in it – another truly incredible performance. I’m already predicting we’ll be hearing her name a lot during awards season. And if you’re thinking of checking it out, it’s hitting theaters everywhere this weekend, which is perfect timing for Halloween!
