Naomi Campbell has announced that she won’t be attending any more Met Galas, as she now finds the event stressful due to her age and the anxiety it triggers in her.
Last year en route to the red carpet, the supermodel, aged 54, who captivated everyone in a stunning turquoise Burberry dress in 2024, unexpectedly confessed something.
One week before fashion’s most significant annual event scheduled for May 5, Naomi unveiled a fresh video containing an unexpected admission.
In the latest installment of her “Being Naomi” series on YouTube, Naomi expressed that this will be her final Met Gala appearance. She explained that she feels it’s no longer suitable due to her advanced age and the excessive stress it brings her.
‘I don’t know what number this is, I think it could be either 20 or 21, can you imagine.’
In the video, she invites viewers on a peek into her processes as she gets ready for the 2024 Met Gala, which has the theme “Sleeping Beauties: Reviving Fashion”.
Each year, the fashion world gathers for the Met Gala, also known as the Costume Institute Benefit. This high-profile event serves as a fundraiser for the Costume Institute within the Metropolitan Museum of Art located in New York City.
Led by the esteemed Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, this event is often seen as the most exclusive and glamorous fashion show on a global scale, drawing top celebrities from all corners of the earth.
Each year, the event revolves around a specific theme. For instance, the celebration in 2024 will focus on resurrecting and preserving historical clothing through contemporary ingenuity.
Instead, Naomi openly stated her dislike for sticking to set themes; she prefers to chart her own course of action.
She stated, ‘I don’t adhere to specific themes; instead, I simply express myself freely.’ As she graced the red carpet, she did so in a breathtaking vintage silver dress from Burberry, symbolizing her enduring relationship with the iconic British fashion brand.
On the first Monday of May 2025, the leading figures in the industry will unveil their unique take on this year’s theme – “Superb Refinement: Elevating Black Fashion.
Outside of fashion, she has been keeping busy with motherhood and business ventures.
2023 saw her giving birth to her second child, a boy, following her announcement of the birth of her daughter in 2021.
Naomi has been fiercely private about her children, choosing not to publicly share their identity.
In the recent past, only a few short weeks ago, Jason Isaacs (from The White Lotus) disclosed that he provided some motivational words to Naomi when she became anxious prior to strutting her stuff at the Burberry show during London Fashion Week in February of this year, and now, a video of her confession has surfaced.
‘She’d had a bad knee – it was the first time she’d walked in four months,’ he said.
After her knee surgery, Naomi and I conversed at length about various knee-related topics. Prior to our appearance before the audience, I took the opportunity to encourage her, assuring her that she would be alright.
