The “Repairman Jack” series is similar to the “Jack Reacher” novels, but with a supernatural twist. I’m still hoping for a movie starring Ryan Reynolds, which was previously announced. Even though the “Jack Reacher” books by Lee Child have been popular since the late 1990s, it took more than ten years for the story to be adapted for television or film.
Now, of course, it’s a huge franchise, with the
The fourth season of Reacher will be based on Gone Tomorrow, the thirteenth book in the Jack Reacher series. The show’s popularity on Amazon Prime has inspired other streaming services to search for similar hits – shows based on ongoing book series with a solitary main character – like The Night Agent or Amazon’s The Terminal List.
Repairman Jack Is The Supernatural Version Of The Jack Reacher Series
While many shows have tried to emulate the success of Reacher, none have explored the horror genre. The Repairman Jack series would be a great fit. Created by author F. Paul Wilson in his novel The Tomb, Jack is a resourceful problem-solver who operates outside of normal society in New York City.
He primarily helps people who can’t get justice through official means. What I really enjoy about the Repairman Jack books is their incredible range – they can be straightforward crime stories or dive into full-blown Lovecraftian horror. Jack himself is a really engaging and sympathetic character; he’s self-taught and relies on his wits to solve problems.
Ryan Reynolds Almost Starred In A Repairman Jack Movie
Jack isn’t as physically imposing as Reacher, but he’s still a capable fighter. Back in 2007, Ryan Reynolds was considered for the role in a film based on The Tomb, which was later renamed Repairman Jack with the intention of launching a series of movies.
Around this time, Ryan Reynolds was close to becoming a huge star, but hadn’t yet landed the perfect role. While films like The Amityville Horror and Blade: Trinity weren’t successful, critics generally liked his performances even in poorly received movies. Creating his own series based on Repairman Jack seemed like a good move for his career.
A movie adaptation was in the works for years, but it eventually fell apart around 2011 as Ryan Reynolds found success with films like Safe House and Deadpool. Even though he’s older now, I’d still be excited to see him take on the role. He’s clearly funny, but he’s also proven in movies like Smokin’ Aces and Buried that he can convincingly play more serious, complex characters.
Michael Mann Technically Kicked Off The Repairman Jack Universe
Michael Mann, a renowned thriller director, would seem perfect to adapt the Repairman Jack series. Interestingly, he’s already directed a film connected to that world. His 1983 movie, The Keep, was an early work for him and told the story of an ancient evil released from a secluded fortress by Nazi soldiers.
F. Paul Wilson’s novel The Keep is the first in his seven-book Adversary Cycle series. The second book, The Tomb, introduced the character Repairman Jack. Interestingly, The Tomb was published a year after The Keep came out.
Despite its flaws, The Keep remains an important piece of the Repairman Jack story. However, both author F. Paul Wilson and the film’s director, Michael Mann, dislike the movie adaptation, and Mann especially avoids discussing his gothic horror film in interviews. Rumors of a new adaptation have surfaced, but no firm plans are currently in development.
Adapting the character of Repairman Jack would be perfect for television, but a movie could also be a good fit. Ryan Reynolds reportedly likes the character, and it would be a great opportunity for him to move away from his typical, playful action roles.
