Wow, I’m already up to almost 80 movies watched this year! A few have really stood out – I remember being completely captivated by Warfare, and seeing How to Train Your Dragon on a huge screen at Caesar’s Palace was incredible. But honestly, my favorite film of the year so far kind of came out of nowhere, and I’m a little shocked more critics haven’t caught on to how good it is.
I just saw this movie called Eternity, and it’s seriously stuck with me! It’s a really cute and unusual romantic comedy with Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller, and Callum Turner – A24 released it recently. The story is about a woman who passes away and ends up in this kind of limbo, where she has to decide if she wants to be with her husband who she spent a lifetime with, or with a young man she fell for but lost during wartime. I saw it a couple of weeks ago, and even though some critics are being picky, I can’t stop thinking about how beautifully it explores what love really means over the years.
This is easily one of the best romantic comedies I’ve seen in a long time. I haven’t felt this eager to rewatch a romance since About Time came out in 2013. While there have been other good rom-coms since then, this one really resonated with me, and I hope others find it as charming, funny, and touching as I did.
Not everyone loved the movie, though. Some critics found it shallow or thought the romantic storyline was condescending. In fact, the movie’s approval rating actually dropped from 80% to 79% while I was writing this! It’s normal for scores to fluctuate as more people see it, and I’m optimistic it will go up from here.
Even though 79% of reviewers liked the movie, which still means most people did, the negative feedback doesn’t match my experience at all – I’m honestly surprised. It’s unusual to find a film that’s so emotionally resonant, and I really enjoyed everything about it, from the overall mood and the actors, to the story and even the glimpses of the world it created.
I can definitely understand why someone might not think this movie is perfect. One critic pointed out it felt a bit too long, and I agree – it did run longer than I expected. However, the last few minutes were so good, that minor issue didn’t really matter.
The film Eternity is scheduled to be released on November 14th, 2025, but will have a wider release over Thanksgiving weekend. The filmmakers are hoping it will be a hit with audiences, much like the connection between Callum Turner and Dua Lipa.
