Warning: This discussion contains spoilers for the second part of Wednesday Season 2. If you haven’t watched the most recent trailer yet and wish to avoid any hints or reveals, it’s best to come back later!
I firmly believe that “Wednesday” is an excellent series you shouldn’t miss if you have a Netflix subscription. When Season 2 was announced among the TV premieres this month, I eagerly awaited its arrival on day one to revisit Nevermore Academy with Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams. After watching the first four episodes, I found myself quickly drawn into the new mystery that has even led me to formulate a theory about Lady Gaga’s upcoming debut. However, I must admit that I’m slightly frustrated by the series’ decision to reveal one plot development before Part 2 airs on September 3, and for multiple reasons.

It Was Revealed That Principal Weems Is Back In Season 2
Immediately following the completion of Part 1, I stumbled upon the official trailer for Season 2 Part 2 of Wednesday on YouTube. I was unaware that it would contain a significant spoiler, but given its widespread promotion across social media, I likely would have come across it anyway. The particular revelation that caught my attention is the reappearance of Gwendoline Christie’s character, Principal Weems, who met her demise in the previous season.
I’m thrilled the actress is back for Season 2, and Ortega has mentioned the show regretted the initial decision to kill off her character. Can you imagine the shock if we discovered this twist when the show premieres in a couple of weeks? I must say, I’m disappointed the trailer gave away the jump scare where Wednesday wakes up to find Weems dressed as a nurse, explaining he’s her new spirit guide!

Why The Return Of Weems Doesn’t Make Sense To Me
Discussing the introduction of Weems as Morticia’s new spirit guide, it leads me to question another inconsistency in this reveal. I thought that spirit guides were meant to be kin, but Principal Weems isn’t a member of the Addams family. Given this, the plot point seems rather illogical, unless the show is intentionally reintroducing the character for narrative purposes.
Initially, I had hoped that Ophelia could be my spiritual mentor (should she have passed), but numerous indications suggest she’s still alive. The concept of Wednesday encountering her ancestors through these guides appeals to me, however, it seems we’re getting Weems instead. This twist somewhat diminishes the impact I anticipated from Steve Buscemi’s performance as the principal, a character I find highly suspicious and eager to see dominate Part 2 just as much as he did in Part 1.
Overall, I’m looking forward to Principal Weems’ return bringing enjoyment, and I suspect there are many more surprises yet to be revealed that we’re not aware of. Frankly, I feel like “Wednesday” didn’t need to reveal this information just yet. They’ve been doing fantastic marketing already, and I must say, splitting the season into parts is something I appreciate. However, it seemed unnecessary to unwrap this present before diving into Part 2.
