I’m Obsessed With Maxton Hall, And It’s Making So Much More Sense After The Creator’s Pride And Prejudice Comparison

I’m completely hooked on *Maxton Hall*! I binged the first season in a single day thanks to my Amazon Prime membership, and I’m already planning a whole weekend to watch Season 2 when it comes out in 2025. I’ve been a big fan, but I hadn’t really thought about *why* I loved it so much, until now. One of the show’s stars recently explained why the romantic drama has become so popular, and it turns out Jane Austen plays a role!

Marlene Melchior, a writer for both seasons of *Maxton Hall*, has likened the series to Jane Austen’s *Pride and Prejudice*. She told Deadline that the 1995 film adaptation of *Pride and Prejudice* was a strong influence while she was working on the show, which is based on the *Save Me* book series by Mona Kasten (now available in English).

The first season was simpler to work with because it closely follows the familiar pattern of classic romance stories, much like *Pride and Prejudice*. I especially love the 1995 BBC adaptation of *Pride and Prejudice*; its pacing and structure are excellent. Anyone writing romance should definitely watch it.

I always felt like *Maxton Hall* had a *Romeo & Juliet* feel to it, with the main characters falling for each other despite their families’ disapproval. James and Ruby come from very different worlds – he’s wealthy, and she’s at school based on her own hard work. James’s father, especially, doesn’t believe Ruby is a good match for his son.

Now that I consider it, the current popularity of the enemies-to-lovers storyline feels similar to *Pride and Prejudice*, as Marlene Melchior observed. The series also evokes the feel of *Pride & Prejudice*, which might explain its popularity, even if it doesn’t rank among the very best shows on Amazon.

While reviewing the layout, I recommended we stick to it as closely as possible, since the designs are quite similar. Each new version always seems to add its own unique flair.

I’m not a huge fan of *Romeo & Juliet*, but I love Jane Austen, so this comparison really clicks with me and explains why I’m so into *Maxton Hall*. The author also pointed out that the story will be different this season, and we already know Season 2 is going to be much darker and more serious, so don’t expect a similar feel to Austen’s work.

I’m thrilled that Season 2 is finally happening! The Amazon Prime Video series has been officially renewed and will premiere on November 7th.
