Impact is leaving Team Liquid. He announced in a video that he’s stepping down to prioritize his mental health and take some time for himself.
Jeong “Impact” Eon-young played for Team Liquid for three years before joining Evil Geniuses and then FlyQuest. He returned to Team Liquid in 2023 and played as their top laner for almost two years. Now, Impact is retiring to focus on his well-being.
Impact leaves Team Liquid
In a recent video, Impact shared that he didn’t perform as well as he’d hoped this past year. Despite the challenges, he cherishes the special moments he had with his horses and says he’ll always remember them. He’s now taking a few months off to rest and think about what he wants to do next. After a tough time personally and with his team not achieving the results they wanted, Impact felt it was important to take a break and reassess his goals. He honestly admitted, “I’m not having fun right now.”
Impact has been a professional League of Legends player for 13 years, playing for teams like Xenics Storm, SK Telecom T1, Cloud9, Evil Geniuses, FlyQuest, and Team Liquid. Throughout his career, he’s competed exclusively in North America. He’s a World Champion, having won the League of Legends World Championship in 2013 with SK Telecom T1, and has also secured eight domestic championships.
Mental health and reset
After posting a farewell video, Impact shared more about what he’s been going through on X. He admitted that while he had one win this year, it felt more like a fluke. From there, things quickly declined for both him and the team. He lost confidence, which caused his performance to suffer. ‘It’s been a really difficult year,’ he said, ‘and one I don’t want to repeat.’
He explained that he needs time to focus on his well-being, both mentally and physically, and to figure out his plans for the future. He emphasized this isn’t a decision to retire, but rather a break to carefully consider what he wants to do next, ensuring he’ll retire happily if and when that time comes.
