As a seasoned observer of popular culture, I must say that the transformation of Barry into a contestant on I’m A Celebrity is nothing short of fascinating. The man who once ruled the ring with his fists now finds himself in a different kind of battle, this time for the hearts and minds of the viewing public.

Fans of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! believe they have discovered the identical twin of Barry McGuigan.

Spectators of the debut episode of the latest series mistakenly identified the 63-year-old Irish boxer as someone else entirely during their viewing on Sunday night.

Baffled spectators mistook Barry for Brendan O’Carroll, the man known for portraying Mrs Brown in the ITV comedy, Mrs Brown’s Boys.

‘I cannot unsee Barry being Mrs Brown absolute double,’ one wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

‘Barry McGuigan should play Mrs Brown’s long lost sister as he and Brendan O’Carroll are very similar,’ another added.

‘The wife thought Barry McGuigan was Mrs Brown and now I can’t unsee it,’ a third posted.

They both believe that the contestant named Barry, on I’m A Celebrity, is actually Mrs. Brown. His voice reminds them of her, and if you were to put a wig on him, it would look like her.

Has there ever been a moment when boxer Barry McGuigan and actress Brenda Brown, who plays Mrs. Brown on Mrs. Brown’s Boys, were both present in the same location?

User posted a picture of Mrs. Brown’s character: “Best wishes, Barry! You were fantastic in Mrs. Brown’s Boys.

Barry joined forces with celebrities such as Coleen Rooney, professional dancer Oti Mabuse from Strictly Come Dancing, and band member Danny Jones of McFly, in venturing into the Australian jungle.

Presenting the main attraction, host Declan Donnelly playfully quipped that our ex-boxing world champ has two options: either join I’m A Celebrity… or square off against a YouTube sensation in a fight on Netflix.

Barry was chosen by camp leaders Tulisa Contostavlos and Alan Halsall (from Coronation Street) for the initial test, with Danny Jones as his partner.

The unlucky pair had to be locked inside rectangular chambers as snakes crawled all over them.

Barry found it tough to unlock the padlocks so he could collect stars, and afterwards, he confessed to Danny that he was unable to assist him.

He admitted his inability to unlock any of the locks, whereas Danny successfully earned five stars for the camping site.

Barry recently revealed ITV producers hauled him in for a discussion on how ‘best not to offend people’ on I’m A Celebrity.

The former featherweight title-winner shared his fears about saying something politically incorrect during his stint on the show, which is watched by up to 12 million people.

Barry admitted: “This morning, I held several talks with the production team to ensure everything is done tactfully and respectfully.

As a devoted admirer, I strive to respect everyone’s individuality. If I inadvertently offend anyone or use the wrong terminology, please correct me and let me know how you prefer to be addressed. It is essential for me to learn and grow, and your feedback is invaluable in helping me get it right.

I’ll certainly try my utmost to comply. However, it’s important to note that for about three weeks, I might inadvertently express something that could be perceived as politically incorrect.

‘No, I can’t say I’ll do that. But of course, that’s always a possibility.’

It was disclosed that ITV has been instructing contestants about political correctness, which emerged subsequent to the producers stating their aim for a “positive” season on I’m A Celebrity.

He shared his concerns about being ‘cancelled’ – a phenomenon when an individual is boycotted for being thought to have said something unacceptable.

The sportsman, who hails from Northern Ireland, said: ‘Political correctness changes every day.

In your communication, it’s essential to use respectful and inclusive language, considering gender, ethnicity, and other factors. This is particularly important when a large audience, such as 10 to 12 million people, might be watching, as your words can have a significant impact.

Just so you’re aware, it’s about avoiding causing distress or offense. I strive to maintain this standard, as I don’t wish to upset others. Therefore, I aim for sensitivity and respect in our interactions.
