I’m A Celebrity Star’s Shocking Link to Notorious Serial Killer

A connection has re-emerged between a participant on the show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! and one of Australia’s most infamous murderers.

Samantha Moitzi, now in the jungle for the reality hit, is the great niece of Ivan Milat.

Initially, the 30-year-old social media personality disclosed her family connection to the notorious ‘backpacker killer’ during her appearance on “Married At First Sight” in the year 2022.

During filming, Moitzi shared that she is the granddaughter of Shirley Soire, Milat’s younger sister, on the Gold Coast.

While on MAFS, she was matched with cheeky groom Al Perkins.

It seems that Moitzi became emotional and shed tears when the suggestion was made to watch the 2005 horror film Wolf Creek, a movie frequently associated with being “inspired” by the gruesome acts of Ivan Milat.

2022 saw Al expressing interest in watching Wolf Creek one evening, but the situation became uncomfortable rather swiftly, as reported by a reliable source to Daily Mail Australia.

According to reports, Perkins expressed enthusiasm about watching the movie since he hadn’t had a chance to see it before. He also believed that a horror film could strengthen their relationship by creating a shared experience.

The source stated that he was completely clueless regarding her family, which made for an uncomfortable situation. Despite his reservations, Sam felt compelled to inform him about this matter. In turn, he was left speechless by the revelation.

A chilling Australian horror film featuring John Jarratt unfolds in the vast outback wilderness, where a series of gruesome slayings of unsuspecting backpackers takes place.

Ivan Milat, meanwhile, committed his murders in bushland in southern New South Wales in the 1990s.

Based on what we learned from the original source, Moitzi appeared apprehensive when it came to talking about the topic in front of the camera, so he opted to share his thoughts with Perkins in a private conversation instead.

The family link was not addressed on the Channel Nine show.

It remains to be seen if any of the other competitors bring up the topic with Moitzi while she’s in the jungle.

In the year 2003, Shirley Soire, Moitzi’s grandmother, passed away. She was a strong advocate for her brother who later turned out to be her murderer. It’s alleged that she assisted him in disposing of a firearm.

She married husband Gerry in 1964. The couple had two children and later divorced.

According to a source, Shirley frequently brought her grandchildren to meet her brother at the prison. (Daily Mail Australia)

Ivan Milat is known for having killed seven individuals who were backpacking or hitchhiking between 1989 and 1992 within the Belanglo State Forest, situated to the south of Sydney. He was also under suspicion for other murders.

He was sentenced to seven consecutive life sentences without parole.

The individuals who fell victim to this incident were young travelers: Caroline Clarke (aged 21), Joanne Walters (aged 22) from England, the Melbourne couple James Gibson and Deborah Everist (both 19 years old), as well as German backpackers Simone Schmidl (aged 20), Gabor Neugebauer (aged 21), and Anja Habschied (aged 20).

He died aged 74 of oesophageal and stomach cancer at Long Bay jail’s hospital in October 2019.

Channel Nine and Moitzi were contacted about the MAFS story but did not respond.

It comes after IAC got off to a shaky start with viewers last week.

In my opinion, as a lifestyle enthusiast, I must admit that I was left underwhelmed by the initial episode. It seemed to lack the humor and spark that I was expecting, and unfortunately, some of the celebrity participants didn’t quite resonate with me or many viewers, perhaps due to their lesser-known status at the time. However, I believe in giving shows a chance to grow and improve, so I’m hoping for a more engaging experience in the episodes that follow.

2025’s lineup includes reality television personality Tina Provis, soccer player Zach Tuohy, humorist Geraldine Hickey, small screen celebrity Nicky Buckley, and social media sensation Max Balegde.

In addition to Moitzi, there’s also swimmer Shayna Jack, humorist Dave Hughes, and rugby league athlete Sam Thaiday.

The reality TV personalities, Reggie Bird (from Big Brother) and Matty Johnson (a former contestant on The Bachelor), complete the lineup.

Previously, Julia Morris continued her hosting duties alongside returning co-host Robert Irwin, following Chris Brown’s exit in 2023.

Not everyone watching was entertained however, with several sharing their thoughts on X.

One person commented, ‘Instead of choosing the least common ground with struggling ex-talents, why not support Australian actors, filmmakers, and storytellers?’

One remarked, “That’s the biggest pile of nonsense I’ve ever heard,” while another commented, “Julia’s humor is older than I am, and it’s not as amusing.

Someone else commented, “So far, I’ve only become aware of four celebrities, which is a record low for me.

One person remarked, ‘They’re staring at each other, trying to identify who the other is. I’m completely clueless myself.’

‘This has to be the worst selection of so called celebrities ever,’ someone else posted.

‘At this stage, Raygun would’ve been a great addition, who are these people?’ a viewer said.

Oh boy, that series hit its zenith last year, and the decline since then has been nothing short of dramatic. I’m afraid #ImACelebrityAU just lost its charm for me now.

Previously, it was rumored that I’m A Celebrity might be canceled, but a surprising change in the jungle edition managed to boost its viewership last year.

Last year, it was unexpected that the popular series, where celebrities live in a jungle with minimal luxuries, would make a comeback. (Daily Mail Australia exclusively reported this.)

Based on information from a reliable insider, it’s been reported that Julia Morris expressed doubts about the show continuing until Robert Irwin joined the series.

Introducing the Wildlife Warrior as a new co-host on the reality TV show gave it a fresh boost following Dr. Chris Brown’s departure to Channel Seven.

According to a source, if Dr Chris Brown and Julia Morris had remained as hosts for ‘celebrity’, it might not have continued, but the introduction of Robert Irwin has breathed fresh life into the show. In essence, the young Irwin has revived the program.

Additionally, numerous dedicated fans have stood by this series throughout its history, and I believe returning in January is an astute move for the show. Behind the scenes, there are many talented individuals responsible for its production.

It’s beneficial when you have a strong team who supports both the production and the celebrity family, as it appears they are determined to keep things moving forward.

As a seasoned lifestyle guide, allow me to share some exclusive insights. It appears that the powerhouse behind ITV Australia, the creative force that brings us I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, has been advocating for the show’s continued presence in our entertainment landscape. They’ve highlighted a key factor in their argument – the captivating energy and charisma of young talent like Robert, aged 20, who undeniably strengthens the show’s appeal.
