I'm A Celebrity producer reveals extreme measures staff take to ensure contestants can't escape camp

With minuscule portions of rice and beans, three weeks of sleeping rough and no fresh water, it seems like the I’m A Celebrity campmates are always on the edge of a mutiny! And to prevent this, ITV bosses have installed a drawbridge that cuts off access from their camp onto the famous bridges leading to the main production area.

In tiny helpings of rice and beans, enduring three weeks without a proper place to sleep and lacking access to clean water, the contestants in the I’m A Celebrity camp are constantly teetering on the brink of rebellion.

To prevent such occurrences, ITV executives restrict the celebrities by lowering a bridge between their camp and the well-known bridges linking to the primary production zone.

Only Ant and Dec, or members of the production team, are permitted to raise the barrier to enter the camp. The celebrities don’t have the ability to lower it on their own.

Olly Nash, who has been with “I’m A Celebrity” for a while, shared with TopMob that they set up a barrier to prevent the celebrities from leaving and entering the production zone.

Upon Anthony Worrel-Thompson’s lead, we marched boldly over the bridge, joining the production, marking a significant uprising within our camp – a rebellion ignited by the scarcity of sausages.

‘The drawbridge has been here since then to stop that from happening again.’

In 2003, during the second season of the TV show, a well-known chef threatened to shut down the ITV1 program when he encouraged an assembly of hungry individuals, which included Toyah Wilcox from Strictly and Daniella Westbrook, to protest and abandon the camp due to their dissatisfaction with the food they received, which they deemed insufficient.

After ex-footballer John Fashanu immersed himself in containers filled with eels, rats, and spiders to recover hidden stars, they were eligible for nine meals.

73-year-old Anthony, visibly agitated, guided the team over the bridge exiting the Australian rainforest, only to be halted by the production crew of the television program.

In this situation, he emphasized that we had kept our part of the agreement, but what was offered (nine sausages) wasn’t considered a full meal, which was his point during the disagreement in the Bush Telegraph.

9 cauliflower florets, 27 pea pods (mange tout), 2 large mushrooms, 4 kiwi fruits, and a handful of nuts that don’t require a nutcracker.

He said, “It seems there’s an issue. You’re supposed to have nine main meals, but it looks like you’re falling short. And each meal should contain fewer than 1,000 calories.

Previously known EastEnders actress, Danniella assertively commented: “If he (Antony) dished out that meal at his restaurant to nine customers, he’d risk losing his license.

Toyah Wilcox, a singer, commented: ‘Fash underwent four tests, taking significant risks – he came close to danger, confronted his fears, but didn’t receive any substantial reward afterwards. Essentially, today we got a raw deal.’

The TV cook implied: ‘If everyone leaves now, there will be trouble. It seems that this program revolves around “I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here,” and we’ll all repeat the phrase and depart in the morning.’

Additionally, Antony made an attempt to flee as part of an effort to extort four cigarettes from TV executives. He vowed that the ten competitors would remain united.

He assured them, “We won’t be separated or divided… We form a team, and we move forward as one.” He added with a touch of gravity, “We shared some fun times yesterday. But this time, things are different – it’s not just playtime anymore.

Following the crew’s intervention, the celebrities ultimately agreed to take a different meal that held an equivalent caloric value as their initial choice.

They returned to camp happier with meat, vegetables, potatoes and oranges.
