Tom Read Wilson, who was a finalist on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, is joining the team at ITV’s This Morning shortly after finishing his time on the show.
ITV executives apparently reached out to the 39-year-old TV star soon after she finished second place on the show, losing to the winner, AngryGinge.
It’s common for popular contestants from ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ to appear on ‘This Morning’ shortly after the show ends. While many expect AngryGinge to receive several TV offers, Tom has become the first finalist from this year’s season to secure a significant television role.
I was so thrilled to see Tom on the show Thursday! He’s their new advice guru, and it’s perfect timing – he’s going to be helping people navigate all sorts of problems as we get closer to Christmas. I’m really looking forward to seeing what advice he gives!
So, after chatting with Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard about my recent adventure in the jungle – they were fantastic interviewers, by the way! – a really exciting opportunity came my way. It all stemmed from that conversation, which was a lot of fun!
During their conversation, Ben mentioned to Tom that he’d become a bit of a trusted advisor for many of the other people in camp. It seemed like everyone was coming to Tom for advice.
Tom responded, saying that Shona really taught him the importance of vulnerability, because everyone is vulnerable in this situation.
Our relationship with Shona was a bit of a rollercoaster for both of us – we seemed to match each other’s ups and downs.
He explained that, like on Celebs Go Dating, he tries to be a supportive friend. He enjoyed being that person for others while in the jungle.
During the show, a viewer named Dario wondered if he should tell a female colleague he’s attracted to her at the company’s Christmas party.
Tom suggested it would be better to prepare what he wants to say beforehand, instead of talking after having a few drinks, so she can believe he’s being honest.
He suggested picturing a wonderful evening, especially if you’d prepared beforehand. He hoped it wouldn’t turn into a situation where everyone says more than they intend, fueled by alcohol.
‘But you’re safer (at the office party) than you imagine you would be. Everyone is in clusters.’
Cat and Ben were so pleased with Tom’s advice that they invited him back on the show, and he happily accepted.
Viewers likely recall Tom joining the show a bit later in the season, becoming a Chief Explorer with Vogue Williams. He quickly became popular and ultimately reached the final two contestants.
He ultimately finished second to YouTuber AngryGinge, 24, with Shona McGarty, 34, coming third.
The finale racked up a staggering 13 million votes, the highest figure in at least a decade.
Tom explained on the show ‘Unpacked’ with Joel Dommett and Kemi Rodgers that, in terms of the number of days, it feels like a very short period of time.
When you add up all the hours you’re awake, you’ve likely spent more time working than you have with your closest family and friends over the past year.
He added: ‘We get so much exposure to one another and get to know each other so intimately.
Honestly, it was shocking to me how open I suddenly became. I mean, really open. I always thought of myself as someone who kept to themselves, super private, but suddenly I was just… spilling everything. It was like a dam burst, and I couldn’t stop sharing, and it felt… amazing, and a little scary, if I’m being honest.
People online expressed their sadness that Tom didn’t win, with one person writing, ‘No way! I really thought Tom deserved to win, but that’s just how it goes!’
Another added: ‘#ImACeleb Tom should’ve won. It wasn’t fair.
This person, known as ‘The Ginge,’ is already very popular on TikTok and likely would have received a lot of votes. Tom is a truly wonderful person.
One commenter stated they wouldn’t be watching next year, believing the winner didn’t deserve it and that Aitch, Tom, or Shona should have won instead of the complaining streamer.
A fourth chimed in: ‘Have to admit I’m disappointed Tom didn’t win. #ImACeleb’
