I’m A Celebrity and Emmerdale’s Lisa Riley praised as “brave” as she explains sobriety journey

Lisa Riley, known from shows like I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here! and Emmerdale, has received a lot of positive feedback for openly discussing her struggles with alcohol on tonight’s show. She explained that she started drinking after her mother passed away in 2012 as a way to deal with the grief, and now she’s completely stopped drinking ‘cold turkey’.

She told her campmates, including Jack Osbourne, Aitch, and Angry Ginge, that she used to drink three bottles of Malbec each night, but she has since stopped completely.

Many people praised Lisa for being so open and honest. One Instagram comment read, “Loved this, so brave of her to open up,” while another said, “The more Lisa shares about her life and past, the more I admire her honesty.”

Someone commented on Facebook, praising Lisa and saying she’s really benefiting from this experience. They also highlighted that it’s helping her and others discuss addiction, and commended her for it.

I’m seriously loving the connection between Jack and Lisa! I saw someone on Instagram say they’re their favorite best friends, and honestly, I totally get it. Everyone seems to agree they’re just genuinely lovely people, and their friendship is so sweet to see.

You know, Osbourne was talking about how addiction isn’t always just about the substance itself, and can actually be a way of dealing with trauma. It really hit home because when my mom passed away, I just completely fell apart. Honestly, it felt like the only way I could cope, like I needed something – anything – to just get through it. It was a really tough time.

I had to keep up appearances, pretending everything was fine – going to work, acting cheerful. But truthfully, I was completely falling apart inside.

“I’m not the sort of person who can be fake and turn that on, it’s not me.”

She explained that she reached a breaking point, feeling constantly overwhelmed and trapped. She found that wine seemed to amplify those feelings, ultimately leading to a sense of complete shutdown, like everything was cut off.

Elsewhere in the episode, Lisa also opened up on her experience of weight loss.

I currently wear a size 16 or 18, but I used to be as large as a size 28. For years, I felt incredibly guilty about not paying attention to how much I was eating, and I’ve now stopped snacking completely.

The conversation, which started about menopause and body image, ended with a funny moment: Ruby Wax joked about pretending to have herpes as a way to avoid unwanted sexual advances, leaving many viewers laughing.
